I'm getting a bit bogged down with a whole list of terms beginning with 'agro'. For example:
agro-ressources = agro-resources / plant-based resources / biobased resources?
agro-matériaux = agrimaterials / plant-based materials / biobased materials?
agroalimentaires = agri-food / agriculture and food?
agro-industriels = agri-industrial?
Whilst I have found a variety of different possible translations, I'm not sure of the best terms in English. I know similar questions have already been asked and answered on proz, but I'm still not convinced!
My real question is: can 'agro' be translated bas 'biobased' the following examples?
Agro-ressources = Biobased resources
Agro-matériaux = Biobased materials
I think they can but am not 100% sure. The thing is, the term 'biomatériaux' is also used in the text, so this would presumably be 'biomaterials'! Sorry for this rambling confusing question - I'm confused too!

However, from what I've discovered by 'googling', 'agromatériaux' appears to refer to 'biomass',e.g. in the use of plants to produce alternative fuels.

After much further research, I've got a much clearer idea of what is meant by 'agromatériaux' & it certainly CANNOT be translated by using 'agro-'.
Here's one definition of 'agromatériaux' - "Agromatériaux' = matériaux formés de mélanges de fibres naturelles et de polymers + bois matériau en tant qu'élément de construction dans les structures (habitat, constructions industrielles, ...).
It is therefore eveident that they form part of the field of materials science.

: First, apologies for posting a separate response: you had a slightly different answer when I began writing mine. Second, re agro-materials, googling yields mostly sites in transl. I'd say agromatériaux=natural building materials in light of your research.

So, 'agro-ressources' would be 'agricultural resources', 'agro-matériels' would be 'agricultural materials', etc. The abbreviation 'agri-' is very much business-speak in English: "agribusiness" is roughly synonymous with large-scale and/or corporate farming; it is an abbreviation I would avoid here. As Valerie says, 'organic' is definitely NOT correct.

After further consideration (see also Valerie's answer), I would still translate 'agro-ressources' as 'agricultural resources', while I would call 'agro-matériaux' 'natural building materials'. I would AVOID simply translating by using the prefix 'agri-' or 'agro-', which does not seem to be standard English at least for the terms in question. If you google 'agro-materials', you'll find almost all the sites are translated into English from another language, not sites written by EMT speakers.
