I haven’t noticed any increase. Anyway, I haven’t been asked often for proof of identity except when translating for UN agencies and recently for a Scottish ONG.

I have never been asked to prove my identity by clients!

What a strange request Oct 2, 2019

Why should anyone need to do that?

Yes, quite a few requests Oct 2, 2019

I've had several clients do this as part of their due diligence. All of them mentioned bad experiences with connections made through Proz or similar sites that turned out to be scam artists.

I work with local direct clients only, so I welcome that more and more real businessmen (unlike middlemen and spongers) prefer talking and working with local freelancers.

However, I can't help wondering how come so many decent smart and educated freelancer (risk-takers) shy away from [double]checking their distant and anonymous potential clients, lamenting over... Absurd.

No, but.. Oct 6, 2019

I haven't noticed it, but it would be a very good idea, beneficial for both parties, given the theft of CVs and other practices in the market. I wouldn't mind if all my clients asked for it, and I'd actually thank them for doing so.
