Italian for me! Dec 17, 2021

I would choose Italian without a second thought. If I could find more time in the day, I would definitely work harder to learn it.

The very first place would go for Dutch/Flemish. I do regret having lived in Belgium for 30 years and not learning the second official language of the country. Then, I would love speaking Greek and German. As we are in the realm of Christmas gifts I would also ask for all the Scandinavian languages…

Arabic. When my Palestinian friend Hala recited some Arabic poetry to me, I realised she was revealing a whole world to which I have no access unless I learn Arabic. My Algerian friend Hichem said in astonishment "She speaks Classical Arabic!"

Even though I speak English, French and Arabic, I've been living in Brazil for a few months and learning the language, but it would be good to be able to master it by Christmas.

I'd want Scandinavian or Germanic languages to make more money as a translator. I wouldn't be particularly interested in consuming cultural content (such as boring and overrated Scandinavian police procedurals) in those languages though...

The "cousin" of Arabic and Hebrew, and one of the world’s most ancient languages still in use, but endangered today: Aramaic.
Because it is closely related to Hebrew and Arabic, two languages that I would like to learn. To me, Aramaic sounds like a mixture of the two.

I hate those. They're flat, emotionless, and uninteresting. But they must be cheap to buy because so many TV companies are using them to fill their schedules.

How can I choose one?
Hindi perhaps. I am very fascinated by the country, its culture, music, and languages.

Hawaiian Dec 18, 2021

I'd love to learn Hawaiian, mastering the language instead of speaking only a few words. One would assume that it shouldn't be too difficult because the language consists of only 13 letters. The challenge is to remember that each single letter is pronounced separately.

An early Christmas greeting, Mele Kalikimaka. It's actually a song, but it means wishing you a Merry Christmas.

I'd love to learn Basque! I live just a few miles from the border with the Basque Country. If I ever have any free time, I'd really like to sign up for classes.

My English level is C2 but I'll never be able to speak and write the language like a native. Would be great if some magic existed to make it happen, though

I was under the impression (or led to believe) that the Dutch were the best non-native English speakers in the word?
