Hello,
if you only want to archive your work and - what is very reasonable - to make a installable copy of your operating systems and all programs installed on your computer, you need only CD-R.

Hello,
if you only want to archive your work and - what is very reasonable - to make a installable copy of your operating systems and all programs installed on your computer, you need only CD-R.
But the CD-RW recorder are quite cheap at this time, for example you can get a good one for 99 EURO, so I mean it is better to buy a CD-RW recorder, because you can use a CD-RW as a large flopy-disk, ie. to transfer data between two computers. For this purpose you need a special software, which will be delivered with your recorder. A very good one comes from AHEAD - NERO Burning ROM (it works with Windows XP too).
After all, if you do regularly backup your system, it will be cheaper with CD-RW, as you can use two sets of disk (according to your data amount) for backup purposes.

CR-R/RW with 12/10/32 speed is standard now. ▲ Collapse

CD-R vs hard disk

Considering actual prices (ca. € 125 for 40 GB) one should think about another hard disk as backup device. It is much more convenient and reliable, too.
