I find this mixture quite nice to view actually.
I suppose it is to make words undecipherable by machines, so that the e-mail can reach the recipient's mailbox without being trashed in the junk mail folder.

From your replies, it doesn't look like there is any tangible increase in scamming attempts, and my experience is just the result of a coincidence.
Thank you for your contributions.

Good luck everyone,
Philippe

Banking details. Mar 24, 2020

My bank informed me by email that there are impostors online impersonating the bank with their logo, website etc presenting themselves as bank clerk saying that bank account is locked down due to the current crisis in the world and they need to maintain it asking for bank details (phishing attempt). The bank warned its users never to give any bank details online as bank would never ask for these details this way (I knew it without them informing me, but nice they are on top of things fully electronically these days as physical banks are locked down). Just scammers are now abusing the fact that banks operate fully electronically and as Philippe said, counting on people with no experience in online banking or electronic world. There are still older people who still go to physical bank for anything bank account related and these days they may fall for this scam due to their inexperience.

Yes, a higher amount of different type of scams was to be expected in this situation. I heard there was a girl on Facebook selling disposable face masks for $50/piece (it can be used only once).

Thank you, this makes sense, didn't think about it...

I got a similar email today from my bank which operates exclusively online, so it's not only "people with no experience in online banking or electronic world" that they're targeting (this would be rather silly considering how tiny a group this is). It's just old tricks spiced up with the covid-19 reference.
Btw. bottom feeding agencies are doing the same, I already had one trying to justify a miserable price with the virus. Some people have no shame.

Scam attempts Mar 24, 2020

I recently received an email telling me that I was USD 1000.00 in arrears (for what, not indicated) and they sent me a copy of an arrest warrant for me.
It looked genuine except at the end, it said "Revert at once to XXX". Revert? Ah yes, the US authorities are now using Indian English in the push towards increased diversity.
