Hello,
In a project that I work on, I have come across (or I suppose so) some spelling confusions. To give an example, it says "enter the date range"; however, it should be "enter data range" according to the context. Also the same phrase (enter the data range") was repeated previously.
How should I translate this phrase? There are several people who I have to pass to reach to the end customer to ask it, so it seems difficult.

Do I have the right to decide on it? Or Does a translator have to translate what s/he see?

Typing error

I would put these errors into a file and send the along with the translation, so the author can correct them in the source document. But there is no need to contact if they are obvious typing errors you described.

Notes.txt

I often send a separate txt file along with my translation, with brief comments like this: "enter the date range" - appears to be typo, corrected to data range
Then the proofreader and the client can review my notes.txt if they are conscientous enough. If not, they can ignore it - I don't pester agencies and clients with emailed questions that probably won't reach the person who has the answers.
