المنكوحة من نُكِحت، أي عُقِد قِرانها عقداً صحيحاً. وهي مأخوذة من اسم الفعل (نكاح). ولو وردت الكلمة بدون كلمة (موطوءات) لكان هناك احتمالين لمعنى (نكاح): أولاً، مُجرّد العقد دون الدخول، ثانياً، العقد مع الدخول (والدخول بالزوجة هنا هو وطئها أي (المعاشرة/الجماع)) (وهذان المعنيان يردان عند الفقهاء لكلمة (نكاح)). وبما أنّ (موطوءات) تلتها وهي تعني المرأة التي عُقِد قرانها عقداً صحيحاً ثم بَنى بها زوجها (أو دخل بها)، فيكون معنى (منكوحة) الزوجة التي تحت عصمة زوجها (أي في عقده) ولم يدخل بها، بينما (موطوءة) تكون من بنى بها زوجها. لذا اقترح ما يلي

بيد أنّ هذا لا يخدم أسلوبه الوصفي الذي رمى من وراء حشد مفرداته إلى تنفير القارئ خدمة للرسالة التي يرغب في إيصالها
However, 'consummately married' can be used but I don't know about its negation.
