"Die Befürworter der ablativ wirkenden Laser, solche also, die morphologisch feststellbare Änderungen der Kanalinnenwand der zu behandelnden Wurzel verursachen, ***gehen inzwischen soweit***, dass sie eine Wurzelfüllung im eigentlichen Sinne (Guttapercha-Sealer-Kombination o.Ä.) für nicht mehr erforderlich halten, da durch die „Verglasung“ der Kanalinnenwand nach Lasereinsatz eine Bakteriendichtheit erreicht sei. Dieser Einschätzung halten die Befürworter der nicht ablativ wirkenden, rein dekontaminierend wirkenden Hardlaser entgegen, dass ihrer Ansicht nach die Wertigkeit des Hardlasers in der Endodontie in der Bekämpfung gramnegativer, anaerober Bakterien zu suchen ist und eine Wurzelfüllung nach Erreichen der Keimarmut im Kanal nach wie vor durchzuführen ist."

From a text about the use of lasers in dentistry. This is the second one I've worked on, and thankfully it is so far proving more straightforward than the first. But I don't understand what is meant by the entire phrase, "gehen inzwischen soweit". Is it something like "go so far as to claim"? TIA for your help.

Thanks Cilian (and the peer graders). This works pretty well. Using "now" instead of "meanwhile" for "inzwischen" is definitely a good idea here. I'm relieved to know my basic understanding was correct. But you've helped refine the translation a bit. So thanks again - appreciate your help. Thanks also to the others who offered an idea.
