Deutsch term

auf einer Anlage produzieren

Deutsch > Englisch Technik Produktion/Fertigung
This is a rarely occurring phrase in my experience and I would be interested in how to render it in EN:
Die Kenntnis der auf einer Anglage produzierten Stufenprodukte und ihrer Eigenschaften is von entscheidender Wichtigkeit..." In the EN titles of SOPs "Anlage" is rendered by "plant" and in another section, the formulation "...in den Anlagen produziert..." appears. Is there a subtle difference that I am missing?

Thanks,

Harold

produced on a machine

An Anlage is a machine or a whole production line of machines or a whole factory full of such production lines; it can be a group of components that make up a (stereo) system.

It is one of those words like Mark Twain's "Zug" and "Schlag" in "The Awful German Language".

produced/manufactured/completed

Because they allude to phases of the overall production process, your case could be an individual machine (which might handle multiple tooling steps) or one of several production lines that the product passes through. You might know more about the facility (another word for Anlage).

Here's some fun: Click on the link below. It is a search in Google images for "Anlage". Enjoy the variety.

An "Anlage" in German can be anything from the size of my "Telefonanlage" at home (one base station, two handsets) to an entire production line in an automotive plant.

In the sentence you quote, I would tend to go for "equipment" or something along those lines.
