Jan 21, 2020 (posted viaProZ.com): In January I finished the translation (into GE) of the revised website of a leading UK-based wind sensor producer. Most of 2019 I spent as a GE-FR interpreter on the construction site "Mittelachse" which involved French lineworkers to build a 380 kV power line to transport electric wind power generated in Danish windparks to Southern Germany. ...more, + 1 other entry »

Lebenslauf
My professional highlight in 2019 has been a 7-month outdoor interpreting job for a major infrastructure construction project: The construction of the TenneT 380 kV power line which will transport the wind power generated in northern Germany to the power-consuming industries in the south.
As I sympathise strongly with renewable energies (wind, solar, biomass), I have focused on these industries, regularly updating my knowledge via relevant sites, such as the professional German associations: German Wind Energy Industry Association, the German Solar Industry Association, and the German Bio Energy Association. I have also repeatedly visited the WindEnergy Fair in Hamburg to keep up to date with the latest trends and developments.
I started my career back in 1988 as a translator/interpreter for the German armament industry (armoured support vehicles/tracked vehicles). I enjoyed this job very much for 13 years and it gave me excellent insights into almost every activity within the mechanical engineering process (engineering design, series production, in-field testing, repair & maintenance, after-sales support).
After time out for family, combined with parallel training/work as a tourist guide for cruise tourists stopping over in Kiel, I chose to go back to my roots in 2010 and work again as a translator. This time, I started out as a freelance translator, following training on CAT tools such as SDL Trados Studio.
I also teach French to adults in Kiel. This side job is the perfect complement to my main job as a translator.
