Seit Jahren wird MMS (Miracle Mineral Solution) von selbsternannten Alternativmedizinern als Wundermittel angepriesen: gegen Malaria, Krebs, Autismus, die Liste ist lang.
MMS ist eine ätzende Chemikalie, besser bekannt als Chlordioxid.
Immer wieder werden auch Kinder mit MMS behandelt.
Dabei hat das Bundesinstitut für Arzneimittel und Medizinprodukte (BfArm) das Mittel als nicht zugelassenes und bedenkliches Arzneimittel eingestuft.
Wer offen für MMS wirbt und es in Umlauf bringt, macht sich eigentlich strafbar.
Doch der Handel und die Werbung gehen weiter - weil die Behörden vor Ort und die Gerichte nicht oder zu lasch reagieren.
Jetzt fordert das BfArM erstmalig eine zentrale Zuständigkeit, um den Quacksalbern endlich das Handwerk zu legen.
Können Sie sich vorstellen, ein Desinfektionsmittel zu trinken, mit dem man Bäder säubert?
- Nun ja, es gibt Scharlatane, die solch ein scharfes Zeug tatsächlich als Alternativmedizin anpreisen.
So wie dieser Mann - Jim Humble.
Seine Chemikalie heißt "Miracle Mineral Supplement!"
, sie ist ätzend und alles Andere als ein Heilmittel.
Trotzdem findet MMS tausende Anhänger in Deutschland.
Wir hatten uns schon im vergangenen Jahr in diese Quacksalber-Szene eingeschleust, Doch unsere Autoren Caroline Walter und Christoph Rosenthal mussten feststellen, dass der Wahnsinn weitergeht - und viele Behörden tatenlos zusehen.
Wir sind in der Stadt Regen, in Bayern.
Hier veranstalten an diesem Samstag Verschwörungstheoretiker einen Kongress zum Thema Gesundheit.
Medien werden sofort hinausgeworfen – aber ein Teilnehmer spielt uns Aufnahmen zu.
Zwischen Esoterikbüchern wird ein Mittel angeboten – dessen Verkauf in Deutschland verboten ist:
MMS nach Jim Humble.
MMS soll ein "Wundermittel" sein, das alle Krankheiten heile.
Das behaupten jedenfalls der Amerikaner Jim Humble und seine Anhänger.
MMS – dahinter steckt die Chemikalie Chlordioxid, die ätzend und bleichend wirkt.
Trotzdem soll man das trinken, zum Beispiel zur Heilung von Krebs oder Malaria.
Diese Ratschläge gibt auch er - Ali Erhan, führender Kopf der MMS-Szene.
Auf der Veranstaltung in Bayern wirbt er offen für das Mittel:
Es wirke breitbandig und sei ganz harmlos in den Nebenwirkungen.
Deshalb werde es vom "System" bekämpft.
Dass Erhan in Deutschland auftritt, verwundert.
Denn im vergangenen Jahr überführte Kontraste ihn – wie er illegal MMS in seinen Workshops verkaufte und falsche Heilversprechen machte.
Die zuständige Behörde in Hannover, das Gewerbeaufsichtsamt, sah das damals als Straftat an.
Wir fragen nach, welche Konsequenzen der Fall hatte.

"Herr Erhan hat sich so ein bisschen dem Verfahren entzogen, dadurch entzogen, dass er Deutschland verlassen hat und über seinen Anwalt erklärt hat, dass er in Deutschland nicht mehr gewerblich tätig wird.
Und dadurch dass wir jetzt keinen Wohnsitz mehr in Deutschland haben, können wir verwaltungsrechtlich zunächst auch nicht weiter vorgehen."
Die Behörde hat Ali Erhan davon kommen lassen.
Eine Strafanzeige wurde bis heute nicht gestellt.

"Ja, wie gesagt, wir haben das Verwaltungsverfahren durchgeführt, soweit es uns möglich war, wir haben Kontakt mit Herrn Erhan mit seinem Anwalt gemacht, wir haben sozusagen, wie in so ‘nem Tennisspiel Argumente ausgetauscht, diskutiert."
Kein Strafverfahren, deshalb tritt Ali Erhan also wieder auf, bietet im Internet Workshops an und macht Schwerstkranken weiter falsche Hoffnungen.

"Wir haben ja sehr viele Meldungen von Erfolgen mit MMS bei Krebs."
Wie aggressiv die MMS-Verfechter sind, hat Bettina F. selbst erlebt.
Ihr volljähriger Sohn ging auf Afrika-Reise.
Sie vertrauten beide auf die Versprechen und Erfolgsberichte von MMS – dass es bei Malaria zu 100 Prozent wirke.
Als ihr Sohn dann mit Malaria zurückkam, nahm er MMS und es wirkte überhaupt nicht.
Bettina F. brachte ihn ins Krankenhaus.
Er schwebte bereits in Lebensgefahr.
Seine Mutter versuchte im Internet, in der MMS-Facebookgruppe, über das Versagen von MMS aufzuklären.
Aber dort wollte man das nicht hören.

"Ich bin aufs Übelste beschimpft worden.
Es wurde alles angezweifelt und gesagt, du hast dich wohl nicht ans Dosierungsprotokoll gehalten und wer weiß, ob es überhaupt Malaria ist.
Es ist ja dann richtig hochgefahren die Maschinerie gegen mich, in dem Moment als ich Kritik geübt hab."
Die Größen der Szene schwiegen zu dem Fall.
Bis auf Andreas Kalcker, selbst ernannter MMS-Forscher: er zweifelte daran, dass für Bettinas Sohn Lebensgefahr bestand.

"Die negativen Fälle werden von denen einfach nicht veröffentlicht.
Die sind ja auch nicht gewünscht, das würde ja das Gefühl, wir haben das Supermittel an der Hand, diese Illusion einfach zerstören.
Es ärgert mich maßlos, dass sie einfach so weitermachen."
Die Anhänger vertrauen Andreas Kalcker blind.
Rhetorisch geschickt preist er krude Theorien als Wissenschaft an.
Gemeinsam mit der Amerikanerin Kerri Rivera behauptet er auch:
Autismus bei Kindern sei heilbar.
Man müsse nur Einläufe mit der ätzenden Chemikalie MMS machen - um angebliche Würmer und Parasiten aus dem Darm der Kinder zu holen.
Bei den Auftritten zeigen beide immer abstoßende Fotos vom sogenannten "Seilwurm".
Doch was hat es damit auf sich?
Beim renommierten Berliner Institut für Tropenmedizin erkundigen sich immer öfter Patienten nach MMS.
Manche bringen sogar das Resultat ihrer Darmeinläufe zur Untersuchung – wie erst neulich ein Patient.
Er wollte von Dr. Dieckmann untersuchen lassen, ob es sich um einen Wurm handelt.

"Da habe ich nichts weiter feststellen können, außer dass es eine amorphe Masse war, eben Schleim, irgendwelche Proteinansammlung und zusammengedrückte Schleimpfröpfe."

Der Mann wollte dem Arzt nicht glauben, er holte das Buch Autismus heilen mit MMS heraus und pochte darauf, es sei der "Seilwurm".

"Der Begriff Seilwurm oder rope worm, wie es dann häufig im Englischen heisst, ist mir nicht bekannt.
So etwas gibt es gar nicht.
Das halte ich für eine Erfindung."
Wir wollen den selbst ernannten Wurm-Experten Andreas Kalcker auf die Probe stellen.
Dazu kaufen wir ein Fischfilet, eine Scholle, schneiden sie in Stücke und legen sie ein.
Danach machen wir ein Foto.
Wir schreiben Kalcker, wir hätten dieses "Ding" durch einen MMS-Einlauf bei unserem Sohn herausgeholt – ob er wisse, um welchen Wurm es sich handelt.
Prompt kommt die Antwort:
Das ist rope, funis vermis!
Also: angeblich der Seilwurm.
Und er schreibt:
Autismus ist heilbar.
Das sei Fakt.
Aber: es war eben nur ein Schollenfilet – das ist wirklich Fakt.
Bei unserer Recherche fällt uns der Heilpraktiker Rainer T. auf – ein glühender Anhänger von Kalcker.
Auf seiner Internetseite führt er eine Unmenge von Krankheiten auf, die MMS vermeintlich heilen soll.
Wir schicken eine Testpatientin zu ihm – die ein Kind hat, das an Autismus leidet.
Er erzählt, dass er seiner Tochter auch Chlordioxid gegeben habe, es sei ihr übel geworden.
Trotzdem rät er:

"Das wäre 'ne ganz tolle Sache bei ihrem Sohn das anzuwenden.
Das ist ein heißes Eisen, das dürfen sie niemanden sagen, wenn sie das machen - sonst kommt das Jugendamt."
Völlig absurd – er weiß offenbar um die ätzende Wirkung von Chlordioxid.

"Es macht weisse Flecken in die Kleidung, es bleicht, es tut Metall angreifen."
Am Ende schlägt er der Mutter vor: die Chlordioxidlösung selbst herzustellen – mit einem abenteuerlichen Versuchsaufbau wie diesem – bei dem giftige Gase entweichen können.

"Wir können einen Kurs machen, das kann ich ihnen zeigen, wie man das selbst herstellt."
80 Euro soll der Kurs kosten.
Ein Heilpraktiker – der unbemerkt von den Behörden Patienten in Gefahr bringt.
Unbemerkt lief es auch bei Familie Löwe ab.
Aber ganz anders.
Ihre 12-jährige Tochter kam wegen ständiger Bauchschmerzen in diese Klinik in Bayern, die sich alternativer Heilmethoden rühmt.
Dort gerieten die Eltern an eine Ärztin, die diesen Therapieplan für das Kind erstellte:
MMS-Einläufe mit Verweis auf Jim Humble.
Was MMS ist, erklärte sie nicht.

"Die stellen einen Therapieplan auf, sagen, dass sind MMS-Tropfen, die helfen gegen Parasiten, obwohl nie welche nachgewiesen waren, das war uns ja schon merkwürdig vorgekommen.
Aber es wurde dann ja gesagt, die würden sich verstecken, und es gebe zu viele Arten, die könnte man alle gar nicht nachweisen.
Der Klinik werfen wir eben vor, dass sie uns in keinster Weise aufgeklärt haben, was MMS-Tropfen sind."
Zwei Einläufe mit MMS wurden bei dem Kind in der Klinik gemacht.
Der Therapieplan sah vor, dass die Einläufe zuhause mehrere Wochen weitergehen sollten, mit höherer Dosierung der MMS-Tropfen.
Das als Arzneimittel verbotene Chlordioxid hat die Klinik den Eltern sogar mitgegeben.
Anett Löwe kam zuhause gleich der scharfe Chlorgeruch suspekt vor.
Zufällig sieht sie im Fernsehen unseren damaligen Kontraste-Bericht über die schädlichen Folgen von MMS-Einläufen.
Sie bricht die Therapie bei der Tochter sofort ab.

"Ich saß wirklich auf dem Sofa und hab geweint, weil ich dachte, was habe ich meiner Tochter angetan, ich wollte ihr helfen und dann wird man so hintergangen.
Am liebsten wäre ich sofort losgefahren in die Klinik und hätte die zur Rede gestellt, was die überhaupt gemacht haben mit einem Kind."
Die Eltern beschweren sich bei der Spezialklinik Neukirchen.
Doch die Klinikleitung redet die MMS-Gabe herunter, auch uns gegenüber – es sei ja nur eine homöopathische Dosis verabreicht worden.
Der uns vorliegende Therapieplan sagt etwas anderes aus.
Wir lassen den Toxikologen Dr. Guido Kaiser die vorgesehene Dosis für die Einläufe mischen.

"Wir sehen hier schon deutlich die gelbe Farbe, das heißt, der Stoff ist in einer relativ hohen Konzentration da drin, wir können hier auch den Geruch deutlich wahrnehmen.
Das würde ich nicht als homöopathische Dosis bezeichnen.
Das würde ich jetzt keinem Kind in den Darm verabreichen wollen, dort haben wir die empfindliche Darmschleimhaut, das wird mit großer Wahrscheinlichkeit Schäden anrichten."
Die Löwes melden den Vorfall Ihrer Krankenkasse, die die gefährliche Therapie bezahlt hat.
Die AOK Plus prüfte und konnte keinen Behandlungsfehler erkennen.
Ihrem Gutachter lag offenbar der Therapieplan der Ärztin nicht vor.
Ein Interview dazu verweigert die Kasse.

"Ich finde das einfach fahrlässig, auch von der Krankenkasse, dass sie es einfach so hinnehmen, bis irgendwann mal ein Kind zu Schaden kommt."
Auch der Leiter der Spezialklinik Dr. Ionescu will uns kein Interview geben.
Stattdessen wird uns mit rechtlichen Schritten gedroht.
Die gefährliche MMS-Szene macht skrupellos weiter.
Demnächst veranstaltet sie in der Stadthalle von Kassel einen großen Kongress.
Die lokalen Ämter schaffen es nicht, das zu verhindern.
Überforderung vor Ort und Wirrwarr an Zuständigkeiten.
Mit der Situation ist auch die Arzneimittelbehörde des Bundes, das BfArM, unzufrieden.
Zwar hat sie ein Verbot von zwei konkreten MMS-Produkten erlassen, aber die Verfolgung der Quacksalber ist Aufgabe der Länder.
Erstmals fordert der Präsident des Bundesinstituts eine zentrale Zuständigkeit.

"Der Föderalismus hat seine Vorteile, aber bei solchen Dingen, wo eben konkret Patientensicherheit in Gefahr ist, würden wir uns schon manchmal wünschen, da stärker auch selber tätig werden zu können."
Dass es eine zentrale Zuständigkeit gibt, dafür muss jetzt die Politik sorgen - damit die Machenscahften der Quacksalber endlich konsequent verfolgt werden!

Übersetzung - Englisch For years, MMS (Miracle Mineral Solution) has been touted by self-appointed alternative medical practitioners as a miracle cure for malaria, cancer, autism and a variety of other illnesses. Although MMS is a corrosive chemical, better known as chlorine dioxide, it is also frequently administered to children. The German Federal Institute for Medications and Medical Products (BfArm) has classified the remedy as an unauthorized and dubious medication. Anyone who publicly advertises MMS and sells it commits a criminal offence. In spite of this, it's still being marketed and sold, and the local authorities and the courts are either not reacting or taking a lackadaisical approach. Now, at last, the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices is demanding that a central agency take responsibility for shutting down the quacks.
Would you drink a disinfecting agent that's used to clean swimming pools? - Unfortunately, some charlatans, like Jim Humble, are actually touting this kind of caustic solution as an alternative medicine. He calls his chemical "Miracle Mineral Supplement!" Even though this corrosive substance is by no means a remedy, MMS still has thousands of fans in Germany. We had already managed to infiltrate this quack scene last year, but our authors Caroline Walter and Christoph Rosenthal recently discovered that this crazy scheme is still operating - with a number of authorities idly standing by.
We are in the Bavarian city of Regen, where conspiracy theorists have organised a conference around the issue of health on this Saturday.
Members of the media are unceremoniously ejected, but we were able to listen to recordings made by a participant.
Inside the conference, they’re not just selling esoteric books, but also a concoction that cannot legally be sold in Germany - Jim Humble's MMS. It’s purported to be a "miracle remedy" that cures any illness, at least according American Jim Humble and his followers.
MMS is actually the chemical chlorine dioxide, which has a corrosive and bleaching effect. In spite of this, people are told to drink it if they want to cure cancer or malaria, for example.
This advice also comes from Ali Erhan, leading light of the MMS scene in Germany. He openly promotes this concoction at the event in Bavaria, stating that it has a wide-ranging effect and that its side effects are harmless. According to him, this is why the "System" is fighting against it.
We were astonished to see Erhan making appearances in Germany, because last year, Kontraste reported him for selling MMS illegally in his workshops and for false claims that it had a healing effect.
At the time, the responsible authority in Hannover, the Advertising Monitoring Authority, saw this as a criminal act. We asked what had happened to this case.

"Mr Erhan managed to evade prosecution by leaving Germany and declaring via his lawyer that he wasn't commercially active in Germany any more. Because he was no longer resident in Germany, we couldn't take any official steps against him at this point."
The authority let Ali Erhan off the hook. Up till now, no charges have been laid against him.

"Well, as I said, we conducted administrative procedures, as much as we could, we made contact with Mr Erhan and his lawyer, we exchanged arguments and discussed the matter, and lobbed the ball back and forth."
No criminal charges, which gives Ali Erhan the chance to carry on just like before, offering workshops on the internet and giving false hope to seriously ill people again.

"We've got a lot of reports of cancer being successfully treated with MMS."
Bettina F. has personal experienced the aggressive tactics used by the proponents of MMS after her adult son went on vacation to Africa. They both trusted the promises and success stories about MMS, which said it was 100% effective against Malaria.
When her son came back with Malaria, he took MMS, but it had no effect. When Bettina F. took him to hospital, he was already in critical condition.
He mother tried to bring up the failure of MMS on the MMS Facebook group in the internet, but no-one wanted to believe her.

"They hurled really nasty insults at me. They questioned everything and said that I probably hadn't kept to the dosage protocol, and who knows if it's even malaria. Then they really ramped up their attack on me, as soon as I voiced any criticism.
None of the big names of the scene made any response, except Andreas Kalcker, self-appointed MMS researcher, who doubted whether Bettina's son had been life-threateningly ill.

"They don't publicize the negative cases. They don't want to hear about them either, because that would ruin their illusion that they have a cure-all in their hands. It totally upsets me that they can just carry on like this."
The product's devotees have blind faith in Andreas Kalcker. Using skilled rhetoric, he promotes crude theories as scientific facts. He and American Kerri Rivera also maintain that autism can be healed in children. They tell parents that giving their children enemas with the corrosive chemical MMS will clear worms and parasites out of their guts. They always show disgusting pictures of so-called "ropeworms" at their talks.
What's this all about, then? From time to time, the renowned Institute for Tropical Medicine in Berlin receives enquiries about MMS from patients. Some of them bring the result of their bowel irrigations in for examination, as one patient did recently. He wanted Dr. Dieckmann to examine it, to see if it was a worm.

"I wasn't able to establish anything, other than that it was an amorphous mass of mucus, a collection of some kind of protein and compressed mucus plugs."

"No, it definitely wasn't a dead worm."
The man didn't want to believe the doctor. He hauled out the book on healing autism with MMS and insisted that it was the "ropeworm".

"I'm not acquainted with the term rope worm, either in German or English. There's no such thing. As far as I'm concerned, it's an invention."
We decided to test the self-appointed worm expert Andreas Kalcker.
We bought a fillet of plaice and cut it into pieces, which we laid out. Then we took a photo of them. We wrote to Kalcker, saying that this had come out of our son after we had given him an MMS enema - and we wanted to know what kind of worm it was.
We got our answer right away: That's ropeworm, alright! He also wrote that autism can be healed, stating that this was a fact.
But the real fact was that his rope worm was just a fillet of fish.
Our research led us to the holistic practitioner Rainer T., who was one of Kalcker's fervent supporters. On his website, he lists a myriad of illnesses that MMS is purported to heal.
We sent a test patient to him - someone with an autistic child. He told our patient that he had also given his daughter chlorine dioxide and that it had made her nauseous. Even so, he gave this advice:

"It would be really great if you used this for your son. It's very controversial, and you shouldn't tell anyone if you're doing it, otherwise child protection services will come after you."
It's totally absurd - he obviously knows how caustic chlorine dioxide can be.

"It makes white spots on clothes, it bleaches, it even attacks metal."
In the end he suggests that the mother make up the chlorine dioxide solution herself, using the same kind of bizarre experimental setup shown here - which could result in the release of toxic gases.

"I could give you a course to show you how to make up the solution yourself."
The course costs 80 euro, given by a holistic practitioner who endangers his patients, unnoticed by the authorities.
What happened to the Löwe family was also ignored by the authorities, in a totally different way.
Their 12 year old daughter was admitted to this clinic, in Bavaria, which prides itself on its alternative healing methods. There, the parents met a doctor, who set up this therapy plan for their child: MMS enemas as per Jim Humble. She didn't explain what MMS is.

"They set up a therapy plan, said that these are MMS drops, which help against parasites, although it hadn't been established that she had any, which we already found a bit strange. So we were told that the parasites hide themselves and there are so many types that they can't all be confirmed. We blame the clinic for not explaining to us what MMS drops are at all."
The child was subjected to two MMS enemas in the clinic. According to the therapy plan, the enemas were to be continued at home for several more weeks, with higher dosages of the MMS drops. The clinic even gave the parents chlorine dioxide, which is not supposed to be used as a medication.
At home, Anett Löwe was immediately suspicious when she smelt the caustic chlorine. Then she happened to see our previous Kontraste report on the harmful effects of MMS enemas on TV. She immediately stopped her daughter's therapy.

"I just sat on the sofa and cried, because I was thinking, what have I done to my daughter? I wanted to help her and they betrayed us like that. I really wanted to burst into the clinic and take them to task for doing something like that to a child.
The parents complained to the Spezialklinik Neukirchen, but the clinic's managers played down the MMS dosage, even to us, saying that they had only administered a homeopathic dose. The therapy plan we saw said something totally different. We asked toxicologist Dr Guido Kaiser to mix the dose that was prescribed for the enemas.

"We can see the yellow colour very clearly here, which means that the substance is present in a relatively high concentration, and it also has a very distinctive smell. There’s no way I would describe this as a homeopathic dose, and it's not something that I'd want to go into any child's bowels, because it would probably damage the sensitive intestinal lining.
The Löwes reported the matter to their health insurance provider, which paid for the dangerous therapy. The AOK Plus examined the situation and was unable to recognize any treatment errors. Their expert obviously didn't get to read the doctor's therapy plan. The insurer refused an interview about this case.

"I just find it totally negligent, on the part of the insurer as well, that they're just accepting it until the day a child is harmed."
The head of the clinic, Dr. Ionescu refused an interview as well. Instead, we were threatened with legal action.
The promoters of MMS are still as unscrupulous as ever. They’re planning to present a large conference in the Kassel city hall and the local authorities haven't managed to prevent it.
The local authorities are overwhelmed and the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. The BfArM, the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices, is also dissatisfied with the situation. Although it has banned two specific MMS products, the states are responsible for prosecuting the charlatans selling it. For the first time, the president of the federal institute is demanding that the responsibility for this be centralized.

Ausgangstext - Deutsch An einem Abend vor der nächsten Pegida-Demo und nach dem Dachstuhlbrand in Tröglitz haben Jürgen, Horst, Ute, Peter und Markus sich bei Ronald im Wohnzimmer versammelt und zwei Gäste eingeladen. Es gibt Erdnussflips, Apfelsaft und die Frage, ob Tröglitz überall in Deutschland ist, also auch hier im Vorort von Chemnitz. Die Runde des Hauskreises besteht aus bibelfesten Christen. Ein Kfz-Meister ist dabei, eine Erzieherin, ein Maschinenschlosser, ein Altenpfleger und zwei Rentner, die sich ehrenamtlich in der Gemeinde engagieren.
Fremdenhass scheint in dieser Einfamilienhaussiedlung keine Chance zu haben. Aber nur ein paar Kilometer weiter ist die Stimmung sehr tröglitzmäßig. Vor ein paar Tagen, am Ostermontag führte das in Dresden dazu, dass Pegidisten drei Gemeindemitgliedern drohten. Falls in ihrem Gotteshaus noch einmal genau dann die Kirchenglocken läuten, wenn Pegida durch die Stadt marschieren will, dann werden sie ihnen die Kehle durchschneiden. Das hatten die Männer gesagt.
Die Stimmung ist also angespannt, und man fragt sich, wo das noch hinführt: Nazis, die Ausländer jagen, während die Polizei dabei zuschaut, so wie damals in Rostock-Lichtenhagen – das ist eine der Erinnerungen, vor denen man sich im sächsischen Wohnzimmer wieder fürchtet. Um von dieser Bedrohung mehr zu verstehen, hat Jürgen Michael Beyerlein und seine Frau Sissi eingeladen.
Beyerlein ist 56 Jahre alt, trägt eine dunkelblaue Hose und unter der Trainingsjacke ein hellblaues Hemd. In seinem stoppeligen Vollbart versteckt er oft ein Lächeln. Er strahlt etwas Zufriedenes aus. Seit dem 1. April arbeitet Beyerlein als kirchlicher Flüchtlingsbeauftragter für den Kreis Erzgebirge. Er kennt die Erstaufnahmelager und Flüchtlingsunterbringungen in Chemnitz, Schneeberg und Dresden und engagiert sich für ein Miteinander zwischen Hilfsbedürftigen und Sachsen. Seine Frau Sissi sitzt neben ihm. Ihre Hautfarbe ist dunkel. Sie stammt aus Uganda. Und das ist an dieser Stelle deshalb erwähnenswert, weil ihr Ehemann Menschen wie sie vor einigen Jahren vermutlich noch beschimpft hätte.

They include a motor mechanic, a preschool teacher, a machine fitter, a geriatric nurse and two pensioners who volunteer in the community.
Xenophobia doesn't seem to stand a chance in this neighbourhood with its detached homes, but only a few kilometres away, the atmosphere is not very different to the one in Tröglitz. A few days ago, on Easter Monday, this atmosphere led to an incident in which Pegida members threatened three members of the community in Dresden. They were told that if they rang their church bells rang once more just as Pegida was marching through the city, they would have their throats cut.
The atmosphere is tense, making everyone wonder where things are going: The group in this living room in Saxony are terrified of a repeat of what happened in Rostock-Lichtenhagen, when Nazis hunted foreign nationals while the police looked on. To help them understand the threat more clearly, Jürgen has invited Michael Beyerlein and his wife Sissi to join them.
Beyerlein, who is 56 years old, is wearing dark blue trousers and a light blue shirt under his tracksuit top. His bristly beard conceals his frequent smiles and he radiates satisfaction. Since the 1st of April, Beyerlein has been working as the Church's representative on refugees in the Erzgebirge district. He is familiar with the refugee intake camps and residences in Chemnitz, Schneeberg and Dresden and he works as a mediator between the underprivileged and the province of Saxony. His wife Sissi is sitting next to him. She is a dark-skinned woman, who comes from Uganda. This is noteworthy, because, just a few years ago, her husband would probably have insulted people like her.
