Finding the right word or phrase makes all the difference when it comes to being correctly understood - no matter what the language.

As a professional translator from German and Spanish into English, I do not just translate words, but really care about language. I always strive to deliver translation and proofreading services that not only accurately reflect the original text, but actually flow as though they were written in English.

After graduating from the University of Leeds, England in 1990 with a business and language degree, I initially used my language skills to provide language training, before going on to work in the travel and tourism industry for several years. My continued passion for languages led me back to England in 1996 to study for a Postgraduate Diploma in Translating from German and Spanish into English.

After completing this Postgraduate Diploma in 1997, I spent over 8 years working in Germany as a translator, proofreader, language trainer, technical writer and communications specialist. Since 2007, I have been working as a freelance translator and proofreader in Southern Portugal and am the proud owner of The Language Grove.

Having taken the opportunity to live and work in many areas throughout Germany and Spain for over 17 years and understand and enjoy each country's unique culture, I am often able to draw from these unique experiences to enrich my work beyond "the norm".

I conduct the majority of my work using SDL Trados Freelance 2007 and have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications. I also have extensive experience of the following text types: Web pages, software manuals, online help documentation, newsletters, news articles, presentations, business and process documentation, training materials, brochures, press releases, software end-user interfaces and general correspondence.
