High-Quality Human Translation, Copy-Editing and MTPE

I’ve been providing specialised linguistic solutions for translation agencies, businesses, and writers for over 22 years (full-time). My extensive experience is focused on four main areas:

• Marketing/advertising translations and adaptations (a.k.a. transcreation, creative translations) (English to German)

I work mainly with global translation and adaptation agencies, and I specialise in translating marketing copy for all major B2C (as well as many B2B) industries. In the course of my career, I have adapted content for some of the most prestigious global brands, including many household names.

My workflow includes in-depth research and polishing, and I enjoy creating market-ready texts which read like original copy.

• Copywriting (German)

I typically work with B2B clients on website copy, brochures/flyers, headlines, boilerplate copy, case studies, audio ads/commercials, etc.

• Copy-editing and proofreading (German) (including MTPE)

I specialise in marketing and advertising copy, academic texts, and books. My past projects have included complete rewrites, polishing copy for many successful agency pitches, and editing academic texts. 

I’ve also proofread and edited full-length linguistic works and historical accounts, and I particularly relish getting to grips with more complex, long-form material. 

My work also involves implementing inclusive language and eliminating potentially offensive phrasing. 

• Translation project management (German to English)

This also includes reviewing English content for direct clients, mainly German SMEs, and delivering print-ready, marketing-savvy copy.

All German to English texts are first translated by a fully qualified and experienced native English translator living in the UK or US. They are subsequently edited by me for quality assurance (two-person rule).

• I’ve been a full-time freelance translator, copy-editor, and writer since 2003 

• I’m based in my main market, Germany, and I also serve Switzerland and Austria. 

• I work with translation and adaptation agencies in Europe and the US, as well as medium-sized companies and agencies in Germany.

• I’m highly experienced with all major types of B2C marketing and advertising texts and industries, as well as many B2B industries and many other domains.

• I’m fully conversant with a variety of browser-based CAT tools (MemoQ, Phrase/Memsource, Wordbee/CoDyt, XTM, Smartcat, Smartling, GlobalLink, and clients’ own cloud-based systems), as well as CafeTran Espresso and Wordfast Pro for offline use.

• For German to English translations (direct clients), I work with fully qualified, experienced English native translators based in the US/UK.

• Eco-friendly business: I run a 100% green energy, near-paperless office, and I particularly welcome clients with similar values.

• I employ highly ethical business practices. Client data is handled with the utmost care to ensure complete confidentiality, and no information is fed into public AI systems. 

Qualifications: 

·       I hold an M.A. in English Literature and Linguistics (highest level, University of Münster, Germany, 1999), with Spanish Literature/Linguistics and Journalism/Communication Studies. I followed this with postgraduate studies and work (2000-2003).

·       I am also a Certified Foreign Language Correspondent for English (highest level, German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dortmund, Germany, 2004).

      In addition to my linguistic and marketing experience, I have in-depth knowledge and decades of practical experience in music as an active musician (esp. jazz, rock, pop, music theory, drums, percussion, mallet instruments, piano, guitar, composition, songwriting, lyrics writing, arranging, recording, mixing, publishing) and several years of experience as a club-level chess player.
