Szia,
Just passing by in Budapest, one day ahead of a one week-long conference, would like to meet fellow translators, local or not, and get to know the places where one can have plain and simple, but genuine local food, not just the tourist dish.

Looking forward to meet you in Budapest

Will you be here for the MemoQ conference?
No need to translate the menus, almost all restaurants in Budapest have menus in 3 or 4 languages. Let's see how many people sign up, and we can decide on a place just a few days before April 11. Since it's a Monday, there's no rush to book well in advance.

Wow ! A few hours online, and already we have a large table full of people ! Thank you !

Dear Csaba,
Yes, I will be at the 3rd. annual MemoQFest conference. It actually starts on the 13th, but I will also do a MemoQ trainer training course, which is on the 12th.
Maybe there will be some more foreign paraticipants to that informal gathering, for the same reasons as mine.
Will you be too ? Will someone else ?
Sorry for picking a Monday, but this was the only possible date, as the rest of the week will be packed with exciting events around the conference. These guys from Kilgray do it right, and want us to go back home with a smile on our faces (but really, they did not have to. We happy MemoQ users have that smile everyday already ....)
Anyway, it sounds a good idea to wait and see how many people we will be, before thinking of a place. Is 19:30 usually a good timing for after-work meetings, in the middle of the week ? Or is it too late ? Or too soon ?
Csaba, would you like to be the local organizer for this meeting, at least for choosing a place and doing the reservation ?
Looking forward to seeing you soon,

Dear all,
Talking about food, what would you recommend ?
Gulash soup is excellent, (makes me think of Harira, in some way) but there is probably more than that in Hungarian traditional food.
Would anyone suggest anything, and open our appetite with tasty descriptions ?
... and about places ?
All suggestions are welcome and can be discussed,

I have one particular place in mind. It's called Csarnok vendéglő (literally: "market hall restaurant", due to its proximity to one of the traditional market halls). The nearest metro stop is "Arany János utca" on line 3, but it's also in walking distance from "Kossuth Lajos tér" metro stop on line 2. The address is Hold utca 11. "Gulyás" may be the most well-known traditional Hungarian dish, but the thing is that Hungarians (at least people in Budapest) eat it only a few times a year. Yes, it tastes great and I love it, but it's not exactly a light meal.
I'd recommend starting at 7 pm.
What do other people think? (place/time)

I just talked to the restaurant. We'll have a full non-smoking room to ourselves. Everyone will pay for their own consumption.
Csarnok vendéglő is the easiest to find from metro stop "Arany János utca" on line 3. Exit the metro stop to the right. Look for "Masala Market" on your right again. Take that street (Bank utca) and start walking towards the river. Take the first street on your right (Hold utca) and walk one full block. The restaurant is on the corner. Opposite the restaur... Opposite the restaurant you can see perhaps the most beautiful art-nouveau facade in Budapest.
The place is also within walking distance from the Parliament (via Báthory utca) or the Basilica (via Hercegprímás utca).
See you all next Monday at 7 pm.

Dear Csaba,
Sorry for having left this thread unattended for so long. You did an excellent work with this reservation, now we just still need everyone to confirm presence... or not.
Looking forward to meeting you soon,

Hi all,
Just some Hungarian words I remember from old times (please correct if I am wrong), and that might be handy for the dinner :
