Good morning everyone,

I am experiencing some serious licenses issues with Trados 2007 and Trados Studio 2009 and I wonder whether anybody can help me out with this.

I bought both products back in 2009 and since the licenses came along with extra activations - 2 extra activations for Trados 2007 and 1 extra activation for Studio), I installed and activated the products both on my desktop computer and on my laptop.

A couple of months ago my desktop hard drive crashed badly and I couldn't retrieve the files stored in there, nor had the chance to return my licenses to notify SDL they were not active anymore.

After looking at the SDL website I noticed there is no contact to use in case of support requests. I searched the online support resources and this forum, but couldn't solve the issue. I sent two e-mails to SDL sales department asking for help (first e-mail when the desktop hard drive crashed, second e-mail last week) but got no luck with them either.

Moreover, this morning I tried to run my Studio 2009 to work on a project, but the software asked me to activate the product, which I already activated when I first installed the software.

I checked on my SDL account, and the result was that both the license and the extra license are "in use" on their end, but

1) one license is "in use" because I couldn't return it and had no answer to my support request
2) the extra license is "in use", but Studio is not working on my laptop because it is asking for activation.

So, to keep it simple, my SDL account shows I have 4 licenses in use (2 for Trados 2007 and 2 for Studio 2009) but I am able to use one product only, on a single computer (i.e. Trados 2007 on my laptop is still working, luckily!). This could have a terrible impact on my work, but I have no clue on how to sort this out.

Laptop OS:Windows 7. I haven't deleted/installed any software on the laptop since I last run Studio 2009 successfully.

Any hints?

Thank you in advance for your help!
Alessandra

SDL offers free support for licensing and installation issues Mar 4, 2012

Hi Alessandra,
It is worth knowing that SDL offers free support for Licensing and Installation issues.
You will need to go through the following steps. Basically you need to answer NO to every solution offered (unless of course one of those helps to resolve the issue) until you reach a contact form that you can use to contact SDL's support. I was once in your situation

You will need to go through the following steps. Basically you need to answer NO to every solution offered (unless of course one of those helps to resolve the issue) until you reach a contact form that you can use to contact SDL's support. I was once in your situation and this worked for me. If SDL doesn't respond within the promised time frame, I suggest to resend the issue by using the above steps again.

Also, there is a good chance that SDL's representative in the forum will notice this topic and reply.
Just a little patience (I know, it's hard when you are locked out of your work tool) and I'm sure that everything will be resolved.

Hi Alessandra,

You do need to contact Support, rather than Sales, and the licensing team are pretty fast to respond. Go to the Knowledgebase;

http://kb.sdl.com

Then go to the tab called Solution Finder and now go here;

Licensing Problems
- I have lost one of my license activations and would like to have it reset.

Licensing Problems
- I have lost one of my license activations and would like to have it reset.

This will bring up a form that you can fill in to generate a support request and you will be contacted, normally within a day.

I hope this helps.

Regards

Paul

Thank you Mar 5, 2012

Good morning Shai and Paul,

thank you for your answers and hints. I tried to contact the support team through the procedure you mention before trying with the sales team, but had no luck. I will try again then.

Thank you again for your help.
Have a nice day!
Alessandra
