Hi all,
How do you stay relaxed when you're freelancing? Does anyone have any tips on how to de-stress after a hard day translating?
Let's share ideas!

That's my meal ticket as long as destressing's concerned. Proper weather is the only 'restraint' and 10-15 minutes' ride takes me to the outer fringes of town easily to enjoy the gaugeous air, forest and birds' twitter. For I haven't got a car - it's just takling 15-20 km distance (one way) in the saddle that gives me the feal of adventure and true relaxation. Ah, I'm looking forward to starting the season..

I need to balance intellectual effort with something using the body, preferably very sensual (i.e. engaging the senses). It doesn't have to be much, but it does need to feel like PLAY: a short walk, a few minutes in the garden, dancing, painting...
Then I cook something nice, preferably with a glass of champagne as aperitif while I cook (though a good blanc de blanc will do)!

If it's been a stressful day, I light candles and some real frankincense, then immerse myself in a long session of Gregorian or Byzantine chant. Strong stuff!
Pity we can't swap massages as easily as we can exchange messages!!!

Lately I've been spinning (and dancing, too), but I guess you can de-stress by doing anything physical like the others say (I like Alison's ideas) or anything completely different from your work that you enjoy doing in your free time, anything that takes you away from the computer
Sometimes a good hot long bath, with candles and music, can do the trick, too | | | music and dancing | Jan 30, 2010 |
After a long day of hard work, I play the piano or the guitar. The music has always had the power of taking me far away from where I am staying (physically) to wonderful places...
Other times, I listen to beautiful songs and I dance: alone, gently, slightly, or I practice Tai Chi...
These are the things that work for me: music and dancing | | | sara_missy Italien Local time: 22:57 Englisch > Italienisch + ... Horse riding | Jan 30, 2010 |
Nothing can relax me like spending time with my horse! | |

Just like Claudia.
I walk my daughters to school, and then walk to the gym for spinning class, and then walk home listening to music.

This is very serious topic although it may sound a little lax. It's very important to shape yourself up with something other than sitting in front of computer all day long, like 7 days a week. I try to take at least one complete day off during a week. It's important to get away from your work station, office completely for at least 24 hour period in a week, it's hard to do that of course, but I think we should all try to get away from work periodically.
Also, switching to a lap... See more This is very serious topic although it may sound a little lax. Also, switching to a laptop from a desktop occassionally helps, I found. It gives you a new environment to work with, and somehow it refreshens you, although how timid it may sound. Working with same computer every single day can be tough on your eyes and senses. ▲ Collapse | | | sarandor Vereinigte Staaten Local time: 16:57 Englisch > Russisch + ...
I started taking Iyengar yoga classes last summer at my fitness club. There are many different types of yoga. Iyengar yoga uses props (blocks, straps, blankets) for poses. It did wonders for me! At first, I was a bit skeptical because I thought I liked more active sports, but yoga is my favorite now. It tones the muscles (even the ones you didn't know you had) better than aerobic exercise. In addition to that it also has great benefits for one's mind and spirit: it teaches relaxation, meditation... See more I started taking Iyengar yoga classes last summer at my fitness club. In addition to that it also has great benefits for one's mind and spirit: it teaches relaxation, meditation, proper breathing and being more attuned to your own body. I would highly recommend yoga to all. ▲ Collapse | | | Vom Thema belegte Seiten: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Best ways to stay relaxed while freelancing Trados Studio 2022 Freelance | The leading translation software used by over 270,000 translators.
