Is there a case for revoking certification when it is apparent from Kudoz that certification criteria are not being met?
For example, see below
# Translation ability *
1. Competence in source
2. Competence in target
3. Research competence
4. Cultural competence
5. Technical competence
Given the strong feelings being expressed at present, does anyone else share this view? | | | Thank you for posting this question | Oct 2, 2010 |

I would certainly love to see an answer from ProZ.com Staff. | | | Stéphanie Soudais (X) Frankreich Local time: 06:34 Englisch > Französisch According to the Pro network FAQ | Oct 2, 2010 |
24 - Is it possible for a person to be removed from the network? [Direct link]
Yes. If it becomes clear that a participant does not (or no longer) meets the minimum requirements of any of the three parts to the screening process, that person would be subject to removal from the program.

The screening process seeks to establish only that an applicant meets or exceeds certain minimum professional standards in the three screening areas (translation ability, business reliability and “citizenship”).

Hi Susanna,
If you have evidence on a case that would, in your opinion, merit staff evaluation, please submit the relevant information in a support request.

Question for the site staff: If someone is stripped of their certification, will their name be listed in some kind of Hall of Shame? Or will there be a marker on their profile page, at least? There's not much point in stripping someone of certification if people don't know about it. | | | No, the result would not be made public | Oct 5, 2010 |

Actions such as the granting or removal of Certified PRO Network status are not commented publicly at ProZ.com.
The objective of removing a site user from the certified PRO program would be to ensure that PRO members fulfil the criteria for acceptance and permanence within the program.
"Letting people know about it" would achieve no useful results.

Bloody hell, Ryan, even I'm not looking for tarring, feathering or naked riding through the streets of Merthyr (not as uncommon as you might think).
Thanks Enrique for info. | | | Value as a deterrent? | Oct 5, 2010 |

It might keep "P" people on their toes, keeping up the standard they apparently demonstrated to get the "P" in the first place, if they thought that their profile would be marked with a big crossed out "P" if the "P" was withdrawn.
Possibly a bit harsh if the only reason for losing the "P" was because they stopped paid membership, but on the other hand, it might encourage people who pay to continue to do so... | |

Sorry, Enrique, but currently if an agency is banned from posting jobs on Proz.com, this is enforced and on that agency's profile page there is an announcement to this effect. I don't see why it shouldn't be the same for freelances.
Think about it from the point of view of a register. If a doctor or lawyer is struck from a register, they are finished. Because of this, the register actually means something. Doctors and lawyers know what they have to do to stay on it.

If we want our profession to have professional status, we have to do something like this. ▲ Collapse | | | Susanna Garcia Local time: 05:34 Italienisch > Englisch + ... THEMENSTARTER In stillem Gedenken No, I haven't given up | Dec 26, 2010 |
As the latest round of the blindingly obvious, at least to those truly proficient in their languages rather than being just truly proficient in asking, hits Kudoz, attracting the points piranas, I'd like to say that I'm currently preparing a summary of all the Kudoz-related threads so that we have an overview of what was discussed this year. I'll then post it here, it can be amended and then sent to management for a more structured response than received so far. Is this ok with you?
