Dividing points is a good idea, negative points not.
Please, don't forget that KudoZ points are also useful for jobs.
They are kind of an image of the knowledge and team spirit of the translators.

I am not talking about being on the front page on a list with thousands of points, but when you bid on a job, the jobposter looks in your profile too.
Now older member here have a lot of points, that is true, it depends also on the time you have been member of the site.
And let's not forget that people work to give the answers correct and complete, also with many additional information. They have to be respected too.
There is another problem about timing the answers and considering the first one: timing does not work proper on KudoZ. You see no answer to the question, you work to prepare the answer and when you send it, suddenly a lot of answers are already there.
It is also a matter of hardware. Each computer has a reaction time. You may be the first with your answer, but untill your computer has worked, you have lost. It's kind of running alone in a race and always get the second (or third).
Finally it is a matter of dictionaries. There may be 2-3 answers which are all correct according to the context and the dictionary and which one do you choose?
I had a case yesterday I put an answer which was confirmed by my dictionary. I got two agrees to it, and finally another answer has been choosen with a lower rate, no agrees and with other sinonims which I doubt to be correct. In my dictionary they mean something else.
It's really hard for an asker to choose.
So I think all these matters have to be considered when taking a decision.
There must given points to more correct answers. What if there are 2 answers at least at the same time, both correct (it happened). Which do you choose? May be the one of your simpathy? They both deserve points.
