Hello everyone,

In line with general site rule #2, while friends, family or close associates can simultaneously participate at ProZ.com, this participation should not be carried out among these profiles in order to maintain a certain level of transparency.

Friends, family or close associates are invited to participate in KudoZ, discuss topic of interest in forums, leave feedback on service providers or outsourcers. However, this interaction should not be carried out to gain unfair advantage.

Thank you very much in advance.

Please see general site rule #2 Oct 22, 2012

Dear Mira,

As general site rule #2 states, any action aimed at gaining unfair advantage in KudoZ, the directory or elsewhere, whether taken alone or as a group, is not allowed at ProZ.com, http://www.proz.com/siterules/general/2#2 . This being said, team members can interact in KudoZ as long as this interaction is not carried out to gain unfair advantage.

Thank you Lucia Oct 22, 2012

for your prompt reply.

Thank you for citing general site rule #2, that is exactly what I had in mind when posting this question.

However, I am still puzzled, can you please define what "gaining unfair advantage in KudoZ, the directory or elsewhere," means please?

If we have members of a same team who constantly agree with each other no matter how wrong their team member's answer may be, would that be trying to gain unfair advantage please?

If we have members of a same team who constantly agree with each other no matter how wrong their team member's answer may be, would that be trying to gain unfair advantage please?

If we have a totally inactive ProZ.com user/member (no answers, no questions, no peer comments - nothing at all) who only appears in KudoZ to support answers submitted by a member of his team, could this be considered as attempting to gain unfair advantage according to the stated rule?

Many thanks in advance.

Reports of abuse should be reported to site staff or moderators Oct 22, 2012

Dear Mira,

If you believe that a site member is using KudoZ to gain unfair advantage (to earn KudoZ PRO points unfairly to improve their position in the directory for instance), please report it to site staff through the support center. Each report of abuse is evaluated by support staff carefully before action is taken. Thanks!

Unfortunately there is no moderator in my working language pairs so my only option would be to swamp Staff with examples of such behaviour displayed by a certain team during the past 7 years. That would require an enormous amount of time (both mine and that of the Staff) and I am trying to avoid this by asking a very simple general question:

Are members of a same team considered to be close associates please?

I believe it would be very useful to know.

Many thanks,
Mira

Reports of abuse are investigated on a case-by-case basis Oct 22, 2012

They may be, depending on the relationship between them, Mira. This is why site staff checks these types of reports carefully before talking any action in line with general site rule #2.

So, please, if you have evidence to suspect that any other site member is violating site rule #2 (regardless of whether they are part of the same team or not), report it to site staff through the support center. Thanks!

Please let me put it in different words since we obviously fail to understand each other:
Is "team member" relationship the same as "close associate" relationship please?
How is relationship measured on a case-to-case basis by Staff please?

Mira

What matters is whether such relationship / association is used to gain unfair advantage or not Oct 22, 2012

Mira Stepanovic wrote:

Not necessarily.

How is relationship measured on a case-to-case basis by Staff please?

As explained in my previous posts, Mira, it is not a matter of relationship (or how it is measured), but of whether this relationship is being used to gain unfair advantage or not.

Sorry Oct 22, 2012

but I could not see the following from your previous posts, or perhaps I missed it, my apologies in that case:

Please, how exactly do you (Staff) establish whether that relationship is being used to gain unfair advantage (or not) in a language pair that no one among Staff members understands (in addition, at the moment there is no moderator assigned for that or any close language pairs)?
It is not a matter of one KudoZ question but of a whole series of questions/answers/peer comments in which the whole team participated during a long period of time.
Staff members do not act as language authorities as far s I know so there is no way to prove such behaviour of team members (in KudoZ questions), am I right please?

Mira

Steps taken and strategies used by site staff to investigate possible cases of abuse are not discussed publicly, Mira, but you are welcome to report any possible case of abuse through the support center.

Thanks Lucia Oct 22, 2012

Pity there is no way you can provide a simple answer to a simple question concerning ProZ.com rules - they should be transparent to everyone.

Best regards,
Mira

ProZ.com rules are available to all site users at http://www.proz.com/rules/ , Mira, and your general questions have been addressed in my previous posts. If you would like to get an answer for a specific case though, simply submit a support request.

that they are available, thanks.
What kind of rules are based on a subjective case-to-case basis?
I was expecting an answer in general.

My questions have been addressed but not answered.
I had a feeling that I would not get a straightforward answer anyway- in future I will trust my feelings!

Thanks anyway and have a good day!

Mira Stepanovic wrote:

None. Site rules are enforced equally in any case. As clearly explained in the title of my third post to this thread, reports of abuse are the ones investigated on a case-by-case basis, not site rules.

I was expecting an answer in general.

My questions have been addressed but not answered.

Your topic title asks:

Is interaction among team members allowed in KudoZ?

My first post to this thread states:

{...} team members can interact in KudoZ as long as this interaction is not carried out to gain unfair advantage.

Hope this clarifies.

Sorry again Oct 22, 2012

but no, all your answers are conditional, e.g.
"as long as this interaction is not carried out to gain unfair advantage".

If you read all post carefully you will see that you have not answered any of my questions.

Thanks anyway.

Mira
