Donation is fine. Nov 21, 2006

Hi,

I am not a member, and don't plan to be in the nearest future because of other responsibilities that do not let me do what I'd love to. At least for a while.
I am an active KudoZian though. It is just fun for me and I enjoy it a lot.
There are people who spend hours chatting on different interest fora, others play solitaire or do other things in their leisure time. I "play KudoZ".

Hi,

There are people who spend hours chatting on different interest fora, others play solitaire or do other things in their leisure time. I "play KudoZ".
I do not see why BrownieZ donation can stir such a hostile argument. But I think it is a personal issue. There are givers and takers. I prefer to share what I have or earned to a reasonable point. I don't mean giving away all my belongings.
I also participate in KudoZ to give, to share. I think I would do it even if there were no BrownieZ or KudoZ points. It gives me a lot of satisfaction and is a sort of substitute for translation. Keeps my brain cells moving. Translation is my love and passion. I had to quit freelancing or made a decision to quit it for a while.
I run a small business and I use my skills in my company a lot. But after hours, when I am tired of business I really enjoy the challenge of words and their sense.
I know my perspective might be unique but the point is, Kirill, that sharing wealth with others, actually contributes to your personal enrichment.

Regards,
Iwona

Henk,
Yes, I realize that this way the bouquet of flowers idea has gone, but it's nearly winter (er ... well, in my country) and the flowers are nearly gone.

How come? Holland without flowers? I thought you have flowers all year round. Well, at least in greenhouses.
Iwona

How stupid, must be a typical case of winter blues ... Nov 21, 2006

... to think you can't buy flowers in the flower shop, even blue flowers. Probably even brown flowers: http://www.joycreek.com/065-085.htm

But your garden and the road side look brownish now.

Brown Flowers Nov 22, 2006

Hi Henk,
If brownish can be so beautiful as the brown primulas you sent ... Cheer up! Winter will soon be gone and spring will come again and we will spring in joy and amazement with all the beauties it will **give us**.
I hope spring will not want to keep them for herself and will gladly donate them to us.
Now, a linguistic problem. What is the spring's gender? I said "herself" because spring is feminine in Polish, a beautiful young girl.

And Joy Creek Nursery say they were **given** that collection of auriculas. I think the world would be awful and people miserable if there was nobody willing to **give, to donate**.

Thank you for **giving** us the flowers, I liked them very much.
Everything has turned brown and brownish here too. And it will soon turn white. A different dimension of beauty yet, I guess.

Cheers,

Iwona

agree with Kirill Nov 22, 2006

I have to say that I find the "economic model" put forward by Csaba to be rather misguided. Equally, the idea of "giving/charity" shouldn't apply either. After all, we're not talking about the "needy" or feeding the poor but simply about a discount on site membership. Then again, I've never thought of BrowniZ as something I "earn" (what's with all the inverted commas today?!).

The bottom line is, obviously, the fact that Proz.com wants to get as many new members as possible and in that context kudoz participation becomes a secondary consideration.

Overall, I agree with Kirill and I think more ways for people to spend Browniz would be a good way to improve on the present arrangement.

Ease up Kirill! Nov 28, 2006

Do what you like with your brownies, sit on them like a hen on her eggs, if you like.
I reserve the right to do what I like with mine.
For example making somebody welcome at ProZ, to give them a positive incentive to participate, instead of demanding their input. In my view there is nothing more discouraging than that.
