Compliments to the staff for their excellent work !

Several friends (who have nothing to do with translations) navigated through the whole site as if they were potential clients looking for translators. This exercise lead to the following comments and suggestions regarding the freelancers directory.

Several friends (who have nothing to do with translations) navigated through the whole site as if they were potential clients looking for translators. This exercise lead to the following comments and suggestions regarding the freelancers directory.

The directory page is somewhat cluttered, and the content of the "Quick Link" frame could be reduced to "major language pairs", "agency directory", "team directory", and "search members by name".

Since "Field of expertise" can be selected here, the second step is unnecessary and should be skipped. So the first search by language pairs, with or without one or more optional criteria, would lead directly to a results page.

Optional criteria:
"Location" is not necessary since country of residence can be selected.
The "Keyword" option should be removed. A keyword selected by the user is a very subjective criterion, and results only depend on the keywords that happen to be in some member pages. Extensive testing lead to poor or misleading results.

It would be better if all optional criteria initially selected remain set unless changed, so the user does not have to reset them during a visit.

It would be user-friendlier if the results page has a top button bar similar to that of the Kudoz leaders page, to be able to switch with one click between the 9 broad fields + "ALL" (useful for outsourcers). Also, a similar conspicuous dropdown menu for "Select specific fields of expertise", and a similar "Select language pair" tool. As to the "additional criteria" frame in the results page, the same suggestions already made for the optional criteria. The item "Change: [Languages] [Field]" could be removed, since these functions would already be provided.

Obviously, the instructions at the top of the pages would have to be adapted to the changes made. ▲ Collapse
