Is anyone else being sent repeated e-mails from an Indian agency through ProZ?

They keep sending me requests (through the ProZ system) for language pairs I do not even work with (Japanese, into German, into French, etc.). First of all, I would never work for them because they are using a g-mail account, they are trying to dictate their own rates and because the rate they want to pay is 1/3 of what I charge for basic work. Normally, I just delete these, but the problem is that they continue to send an e-mail every two minutes until I respond and tell them no. I got seven of them so far today. Either they are continually in a rush for every project or can't find anybody desperate enough to work at a slave's wage.

Pity their clients because they are obviously not reading profiles and not vetting translators at all. The client would do better to just find translators themselves.

Even if we are not allowed to comment, to me this behaviour is clearly gross abuse of ProZ.com's messaging system and should be reported as such.

At another level, I have strictly no understanding at all for agencies located "abroad" who think they can get away with starvation rates. End of rant.

Thanks Jeff: possible technical error + a word on rates Mar 23, 2010

Hello Jeff,

I had a look at your support request, and if I understand correctly there may have been a problem in the system which allowed the same message to be sent more than once (I cannot confirm this 100% yet). Beyond whether or not the offer was attractive, there's no reason for you or anyone else to get multiple copies of a message.

I'll start by checking to make sure this is really what happened and make sure any technical issues get fixed.

On the subject of rates, for those who are not already aware of this, Henry has put out a call for help from translators in building a wiki article called "Determining your rates and fees as a translator". The article is being discussed here, for anyone interested in reading or participating: http://www.proz.com/topic/160393

Best regards,
