Hi there.

I need someone to translate my personal letter and was wondering if I can post here as "job".
Because it is VERY important for me, I don't mind paying the fee even if it's a personal letter, not business issues. I usually ask my mate to translate for me, but I don't want him to know (nor can I tell) the contents. So...
Proz.com is the only place I can possibly think of, but I'm not too sure what could be the best way.

Posting as job? Contacting directly to certain translators (using translator search on the site)?
Is it ok if I post as job or is it not considered as job?

I'm not expecting too much like high quality; I want it translated and make sure he (the receiver) gets the exact message I originally wrote... Hopefully, translator would understand my feelings in the letter (I'm sure s/he will).

The language I need is Arabic (from English to Arabic) and, because this is personal casual letter, I want strictly Egyptian Arabic. I don't mind if it's written in Arabic letters or romanised Arabic (alphabets and numbers).

Payment method would be PayPal, so that I don't need to worry about translator's whereabout.

Any suggestions and helps would be deeply appreciated!

best regards,
nekonote

Dear Nekonote,

Would you say this to your dentist, too?

That is a really unprofessional attitude from a translator.

Gyula

Sorry if you read my post with judgment.

I just wanted to say that this letter I want to ask for translation is not business or official letter, so I hesitate to post as a job. High quality is usually the issue for translation business, but the reason why I wonder this much and am not willing to post as job is because I cannot be too sure if it (even slightly) could violate the site rule.

I simply need translation help, and I don't know the site system well.

Maybe I shouldn't have even mention to what I expect, nor my wonderings.

I thought Proz forum was to help fellow colleagues.
You only picked one tiny bit of what I wrote.
Is that how you work too? Missing the forest for the tree? Paying attention to details is one thing, but being picky and missing the big picture is another.
I know and have pride in what I do; respect people you don't even know, please.

Post it as a job Jan 9, 2012

I don't see a reason for you not to post it as a job! A personal letter is as much of a job as a contract for a translator...

Thank you very much, Aradai

As I'm not "outsourcer" and I respect the site, I hesitated to post any personal issue together with big business jobs...!

You're right.

Anyone may post a job Jan 10, 2012

Anyone may post a job. You don't have to register as an outsourcer or anything - you simply fill in the necessary parts of the form.

The rest is up to you and the translator you choose to do the job (assuming there is more than one reply to your post). You simply agree on terms and all the details.

It is a matter of politeness to thank the others, but not obligatory. You need not give any reason: just say you have chosen another translator, unless you really want to g

Many of us have probably translated personal documents for colleagues who specialise in other languages.

Best of luck!

Thank you very much, Christine! I didn't know that. That encourages me and makes me feel comfortable!

Thank you very much!!!
