German term

Königsbohrung

German to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering Turbine impeller
Not much context to go on here, but this term appears on a diagram in a milling log for a compressor impeller under the heading "Rundlauf und Planlaufkontrolle". Centre hole perhaps? No ghits that I could find, so wondered if anyone else had come across it before?

Discussion

Claire Cox (asker) Nov 14, 2013:
Thanks Thanks for your input everyone: I'm inclined to think it's just the central hole too, but have referred it to the client for clarification. I'll report back if I receive a response!
Heather McCrae Nov 14, 2013:
Who is Helen? I think they just mean the main bore or central bore
Yorkshireman Nov 14, 2013:
Heather, of course - my mind was somwhere else the problem is, compressors with impellers have a straight driveshaft, not a crankshaft - that would be for a compressor with cylinders. Maybe what we are looking for is a driveshaft bore.
Ruth Wiedekind Nov 14, 2013:
Königsbohrung has only 4 Google hits - Please provide more context.
Heather McCrae Nov 14, 2013:
sorry, but would have to pay for further text :) but this may be a clue?
= crankshaft bore
Yorkshireman Nov 14, 2013:
Pure guesswork Could it be something to do with the company KVT?

They are a big manufacturer of sealing plugs and expanders for all sorts of industrial applications and use the brand name Koenig for their products.

pivot boring

Reminds me 'Königsstuhl' (pivot bearing).

'pivot boring' has a lot of Ghits. Unfortunately I cannot copy links with my smartphone, the only internet access I have during my trip.

neutral Yorkshireman : maybe this will help - lots of diagrams of impellers. http://tinyurl.com/onlwjrz The only thing I can think of with "king" is kingpin. Looks like this is pointing us in the right direction. Enjoy your trip.

The kingpin (Königszapfen) matches the king bearing (Königsstuhl). Obviously we have here an analogue designation.

Kingpin bearing

Lots of ghits for "kingpin bearings" - but I still don't know whether it's what you are looking for. Thanks to Johannes Gleim for his input.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Heather McCrae : don't think it has to do with bearings, it is referring to the main hole that all milling dimensions are referenced to (imo) - and no holey jokes, ok? ;)

The jokes that usually turn up in engineering questions are about greasing nipples :-) Seriously though, it may be the centre hole of the impeller where the shaft/kingpin is inserted. Imprecise machining of this would prevent it running true.
