From a discussion of types of discounts offered for ad insertion. Size and frequency discounts are described, and then:
"Eine weitere Form der angebotenen Rabatte stellen Naturalrabatte dar. Dahinter verbirgt sich die kostenlose Zugabe weiterer Schaltungen. Beispiel: Ein Händler schaltet 15 Seiten und darf eine 16. Seite kostenlos schalten. Eine weitere Form der Naturalrabatte sind redaktionelle Beiträge, die gerne von Verlagen als kostenlose Beigabe angeboten werden."
I'm not sure I understand what they are describing. It sounds like they are talking about articles describing (extolling?) the advertised product, but are publishers really willing to flout the editorial/advertising boundary so readily? Is this a case of "if you advertise with us, we'll run articles saying nice things about your product"? Or is something else meant?

John, basically you have understood it. It is fairly standard these days (as is product placement) to place articles in periodicals / magazines / newspapers as a bonus for spending money on ads. Often these articles are written by the company which advertises. Howver I (like to) believe that the final responsibility for contents is editorial and these articles should be/remain factual.

: sorry but these articles can be of a purely informative nature, thus not necessarily being advertorials

: "Article" isn't always pertinent; the "Beitrag" might be a press release, for example.
