Hm... if i may suggest so, "make amends" is more appropriate for something one has deliberately or negligently done wrong, meaning, it carries the connotation of an apology, and "patch things up" usually refers to relationships (personal business, or otherwise) that need to be repaired, but here it seems the comment refers to her previous lacklustre performance or some mistake she made, so she now has a chance to make up for, or compensate for, said lack or mistake.
