Three keywords here - informal, friendly and fun. If you are seeking a formal event/meeting environment, then this Powwow will most certainly *not* be your cup of tea.
Hi Chris - thanks for this invitation, this sounds like a great idea and a good way to meet new people. Unfortunately I'll be away from Leeds on June 5 and so won't be able to attend, but if the date were to change, or if there are any future events, I'd be delighted.

No worries whatsoever, Rachele.
There may be future Leeds Powwow events depending on the success of this event. Our paths may cross in the future.

Hi everybody! I was very surprised when I came across this powwow in Leeds. I wonder whether you know that there is already a regional group which organises social events in North Yorkshire every month. There is also a Jelly Day once a month on a Friday morning at Cafe Rouge in York. If you want to learn more, here is the link to the website: http://www.yti.org.uk/ The next social event is actually going to be in Leeds. It will take plac... See more

If you want to learn more, here is the link to the website: http://www.yti.org.uk/ The next social event is actually going to be in Leeds. It will take place at 7 pm on Wednesday 12 June, and will consist of a German wine tasting and food at "Behind the Town Hall". The July event will be a walk in the Denby Dale area on 14 July. New members are always welcome! ▲ Collapse

Dear Sabine,
This group is principally aimed at those translators/interpreters based in the West Yorkshire area, so is therefore not aimed at the region of North Yorkshire. Btw, what is a Jelly Day? I have never heard of one, but sounds very intriguing indeed. This group is aimed at being more informal than formal. I have had quite a few emails about this today, but I believe that I have not broken any rules as far as I am aware of. Thank you.
CJH.

Hi Chris (and everyone else too),
Is this event open to people who have never taken part in powwows before?
Thank you,
Andrea

Dear Chris:
You have certainly not broken any "rules". It just seems a shame that you should be endeavouring to set up a group of translators and interpreters on a city-wide (Leeds) or sub-regional (West Yorkshire) basis when we (Yorkshire and Humberside) have one of the strongest Regional Networks in the UK, a Network which has been built up through a lot of hard work and commitment by many people over thirty years. As well as formal training events (many organised in conjunction with the three Universities specialising in this field in the Region (including the University of Leeds), we also organise monthly social events (and the next one (planned months ago) will be in the "Behind the Town Hall" Restaurant in Leeds a week today (16th June). I hope that you, and the other members of your group, may therefore consider joining YTI as well. I am sure that, like our 70+ Members at present, you will find it very useful and enjoyable.

Sorry, Chris! Should have said Yorkshire and not North Yorkshire and no, you are not breaking any rules - it just seems a bit daft to set up something new for translators and interpreters although there is already an informal way of meeting each other. Members of the YTI are in no way obliged to attend any of the CPD events which are organised as well. Just to emphasise that you do NOT to be a member of I.T.I. (or any other organisation) to join YTI. You just need an interest in some form in Translation and Interpreting and some connection or other with the Region. (You do not even need to live here! We have Members currently living in Cumbria, Durham, Aberdeen and the Cairngorms!) Please contact me direct if you would like more details or go to our website at: http://www.yti.org.uk Look forw...
