6.1 Supplier inquiry and evaluation
i. Carry out supplier inquiries via internet, magazines, recommendations, etc.
ii. Send a letter to supplier requesting full disclosure of pertinent information (mandatory for "critical components", see QMV 10-3)
iii. Create a shortlisted selection of suppliers based on assessment of information gathered
iv. Further assessment through a request for a quote – preferably about standard items to allow for proper comparison
v. Analysis (price, processing time, terms and/or conditions, etc.)
vi. As required, arrange technical discussions relating to specifications, feasibility models, etc. as well as discussions regarding offering prices
vii. Request a Sample order (see 6.2 Procedure for Sample Ordering)
viii. Evaluation of sample order quality using the release procedures of QS and BU/MS (see 6.2 Procedure for Sample Ordering)
ix. Evaluation of supply performance (regularity, consistency, quality control, etc.)
x. Arrange a feedback discussion with the supplier
