I am still muttering about Windows10, but have to use it for this site among others. They do not function well with the older systems.
I still have Windows 7 on my laptop, but will have to have a new one sometime. A pity. The old one weighs a ton, but it WORKS most of the time, and it is not slowing down!

Windows 10 comes in a hideous colour scheme, or else I can't read the lettering, dark on a dark background, and it rearranges my desktop, so all my files and folders are placed at random in supposedly neat rows... not in logical groups where I can find them.
It wasn't broke, so why did they have to 'fix' it - quite literally - so that I can't get it to work the way I want? ▲ Collapse | | | neilmac Spanien Local time: 12:16 Spanisch > Englisch + ... Last 6 months | Oct 13, 2017 |
I got a brand new backup PC with Office 2010 in it, mainly so that I can still work with PowerPoint, Excel and Wordfast Classic. My main PC is also only about a year old, but I had Office 2016 installed before finding out that it wouldn't work with the aforementioned SW combination. As I only need to work with the WFC + Excel/PowerPoint combination occasionally, I decided to just leave the main PC and upgrade my backup setup, but with Office 2010.

I also have another fully functioning PC, but I mainly use it as a radio as long as the other two PCs are working. I also have two functioning laptops, one in each language. This way, I'm pretty much guaranteed to be able to continue working if any of the PCs malfunctions. ▲ Collapse | | | neilmac Spanien Local time: 12:16 Spanisch > Englisch + ...

I find myself with the same lament almost every time they "improve" the software. There is nothing more annoying than having your working setup upset that way, especially when they won't stop crowing about it, as if they were doing you a favour.

More than one year ago | Oct 13, 2017 |
I bought my desktop more than one year ago (maybe 2 or 3, can’t remember exactly), I haven't touched my very old laptop for a while (I'd like to replace it but it’s increasingly difficult to find one with an AZERTY keyboard). I've bought a new color laser printer at the beginning of this year after the old one broke down...

Somebody seems to think we buy computers all the time. There should have been more options. I buy a new laptop about every three years. My desktop is fine for the moment. It's about 2 years old but I only bought a new one since (professional?) removal men managed to break my old one. | | | Anne Schulz Deutschland Local time: 12:16 Englisch > Deutsch + ... Depends on what you call "upgrade" | Oct 13, 2017 |
Every change of hardware is automatically an "upgrade" as simple, basic, functioning devices are rare on the market these days. You get more speed, more options, more buttons and/or menu bars – and more predisposition to errors and breakdowns. In that sense, I made my last hardware "upgrade" last week when I replaced my all-in-one printer which had successively quit most of its functions over the last couple of months after having served my needs reliably for 13 years.
I would have answered this morning, but she's only just finished booting up

My computer is almost two years old. However, if you include "/hardware" in the poll, that changes everything. I changed my hard drive for an SSD drive in March. I bought e new printer in January. And I finally bought a mechanical keyboard last week. I'm also changing my internet connection to optical next month, which will imply some hardware upgrading.
So hardware upgrades occur regularly. Changing the computer is a whole different story. | | | Muriel Vasconcellos Vereinigte Staaten Local time: 03:16 Mitglied (2003) Spanisch > Englisch + ... Computer vs. hardware | Oct 14, 2017 |
My desktop computer is about 3 years old. I bought a new printer earlier this year and a new backup drive this month. I got a new tablet in 2016. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: My last computer/hardware upgrade was...
