I don’t think I’ve ever received best wishes from close friends or family members in that occasion (I suppose most of them ignore this day exists), but the same doesn’t apply to former colleagues I’m still in touch with and to some Prozians I’m in regular contact with.
They are not aware of that day. | | | Aline Amorim Brasilien Local time: 02:58 Englisch > Portugiesisch + ...

My mother wishes me happy International Translation Day because I write at social media.
To be honest, they don't know what is Translator's profession.
Hugs,

No, but that is not unusual (in fact, it would be unusual if they did). We don't wish each other happy this or happy that, except for religious holidays, new year, and mother's and father's day. In my country of origin, things like youth day and independence day are public holidays, but I can't think of any scenario in which anyone would wish anyone else "happy youth day" or "happy independence day" -- it would be weird, unless you're a politician or an activist trying to gain rapport with an ... I don't think I've ever heard it from a translator, so little chance of hearing it from family and friends. And if I did, I'd assume they were taking the mickey. There are so many International Something Days, too. International Bricklayers' Day, International Steeplechase Day, International Solid Urban Waste Day. And then I find it hard to imagine the cheery cry of "... and a Happy International Septacemia Day to you too!"

Basically no, at least not on that day because they simply don't think about it. However, once they hear about it, then they do. Better late than never, right?

I just thought that in my long career as a software developer, we never had such a thing like a software developer day. But I was wrong! In fact, there is an official software developer day (or "day of the programmer", see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_of_the_Programmer ). It is the 256th day of the year, which normally will be September 13, but in leap years like 2020, it is Septe... It is the 256th day of the year, which normally will be September 13, but in leap years like 2020, it is September 12. The number 256 is significant since it is hexadecimal "100" or 2^8, the capacity of one byte. (In China it is October 24, or 1024, for 2^10, maybe the bytes are longer there)

Every day now is worthy of celebration.
Is it common for family or friends wishing you a Happy International Beer Day, by chance?
I don't think these days really matter, the most important is that your family and friends care about you, know how great professional and person you are, and remember you in the good and bad times.
No, I don't get any greetings from my family or friends on that day, I believe they aren't aware of it, but I am expecting to know from them very soon o... See more Every day now is worthy of celebration.

And I shamefully admit that I don't even remember when this day is.
On one Teachers' Day a few years back, I joked to my teacher husband, 'Pff, what's the big deal about teachers? I see no international day celebrating translators.'
Oh ...

If they remember, they most certainly do. This reminds me of a cartoon - sleeping position if you are a lawyer, athlete, police officer etc. for the translator it was an empty bed 😁😂😌

I think we should all start a campaing and start suggesting more poll questions. The people who manage the polls are certainly having a hard time to select the questions to be published and there are obviously very few options. Let's collaborate?

I have one poll question already prepared and carefully chosen for the new members who recently joined this forum, bombarding the Kudoz Help with the basics, not to mention flooding your inbox with suspicious CVs. | | | Ben_ (X) Vereinigtes Königreich Local time: 05:58 Deutsch > Englisch
I'm pretty shocked anybody at all said yes to be honest unless they were just trolling. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Do friends or family ever wish you a happy International Translation Day?
