自由职业就低人一等吗？ Thread poster: Jiang Xia

最近与久不联系的高中同学通电话，得知我做自由译者后，他说："还是要找个稳定工作。"今天我姐夫建议我考公务员,话里行间也颇不认同自由职业,觉得等于没有工作，可自己一直觉得自由职业很适合我，看来许多人心存偏见，总觉得做喜欢的工作获得的内心喜悦反而是千金难换的。想问问大家周围的人是否抱有类似看法，国外对自由职业又持怎样的态度，十分想倾听一下大家的高见。

林子大，不管你做什么工作，总有鸟对它有意见。做公务员，人家说你没有进取心，就靠个铁饭碗混日子。进外资企业，谁谁嫌你崇洋媚外。自己做生意，你亲妈整天唠叨你风险大。自己对工作满意就好！

在德国，有一份公司做职员的工作还是比较舒适的，通常不会太累，享受一年6周的休假，所以是大部分人的首选。但你若为一名自由职业者，受周围环境的压力较少，这里的人相对较懂得尊重个人的选择，不爱说教别人。我遇到过有真心佩服自由职业者的勇气的，也分享过不少同业者的心得：再也不想当职员，喜欢上了自由职业。但也不能说不存在偏见，尤其当你刚起步时。

非常感谢大家对我的鼓励
谢谢J.H.Wang、Zhoudan、Zhouxianlian、Phil Hand、Jun Yang.
虽然和“一箪食，一瓢饮，在陋巷，人不堪其忧，回也不改其乐……“的境界还差很远，但是我将自由译者职业一直做下去的想法从没动摇过。听别人说三道四虽不至于改变志向，但难免还是有点儿小小的不爽，有了大家的支持，这点儿不快也烟消云散了。

只要自己能够养活自己，不违反法律，自己可以选择自己喜欢的工作、生活方式，而不必按照别人的观念、认识做出选择。

I think this has nothing to do with the job but the community/society in which you take part.
The Hong Kong mentality, for example, is such that everybody wants to study business/finance/medicine because being a doctor/insurance broker/financial dude is the go-to job instead of being, say, a writer. People will probably think you're on crack if you tell them you're a poet.
When literature and arts are deemed as something "only the crazies" will work/study for, it doesn'... See more I think this has nothing to do with the job but the community/society in which you take part.

When literature and arts are deemed as something "only the crazies" will work/study for, it doesn't surprise me that a freelancing job is considered second class. Me, on the other hand, find it hard to go back to the corporate world. Don't get me wrong, I love the perks and the insurance coverage (!) that comes with a regular 9 to 5, but with what I am doing now, I set my own schedule, I am free to move around the whole world and most of all, I love it. I still prefer having a part-time job while working as a translator, but I love it too much and would not want a full-time job for fear that I won't have enough time to do what I love. ▲ Collapse
