German term

Redaktionelle Leitsätze

German to English Law/Patents Law: Patents, Trademarks, Copyright
This term appears in a heading as part of a decision handed down in patent nullity proceedings:

"Redaktionelle Leitsätze und Gründe des Urteils"

I'm wondering whether it means "Editorial principles", or is that too straightforward?

Discussion

Chris Pr Jun 18, 2020:
In other words... ...a synonym was chosen after all over the 'official' term...

Headnote
A brief summary of a legal rule or a significant fact in a case that, among other headnotes that apply to the case, precedes the full text opinion printed in the reports or reporters. A syllabus to a reported case that summarizes the points decided in the case and is placed before the text of the opinion.
Each jurisdiction usually determines whether headnotes are part of the law or only an editorial device to facilitate research.

But at least it's an improvement over the 'wildly popular', yet erroneous (read guesswork), "Legal background / Reasoning"...
Emma Grubb (asker) Jun 18, 2020:
As an additional point of note, I discovered that the word "Redaktionelle" simply refers to the fact that the key points were added by the "Redaktion" or "editorial team", i.e. they were added by the editor(s) to aid those reading the judgment and do not form part of the judgment itself.
Chris Pr Jun 14, 2020:

And was the question "redaktionelle" or "nichtamtliche" Leitsätze...?

There's even a correct (almost) glossary entry for this term:

that's why I suggested "draft" and we're getting there
philgoddard Jun 14, 2020:
Editorial is not the right word - that refers to things like books and magazines. My guess would be 'drafting principles", but it would still be good to see the German.
Klaus Beyer Jun 14, 2020:
Editorial principles... and reasoning underlying the court's decision

But not "judgment" and "directives"
David Hollywood Jun 14, 2020:
I can't get away from "guiding principles"
Emma Grubb (asker) Jun 14, 2020:
The text underneath this heading sets out the grounds for the decision. The "Redaktionelle Leitsätze" are not further mentioned.
philgoddard Jun 14, 2020:
If it's a heading, what does it say underneath?

German term (edited): Redaktionelle/r Leitsatz/sätze ... des Urteils
Selected

Key reported point/s ... of the judgment

Surely refers to the short-form headers - separated by dashes ? - to the judgment in point, so a digest or the highlights 'in a nutshell', rather than to any extraneous case citations or summaries contained therein.
Example sentence:

Dass redaktionelle Leitsätze geschützt sind, hat der Bundesgerichtshof bereits vor Jahren entschieden (Az.: 1 ZR 190/89). Damals hatte eine Zeitschrift zum Steuerrecht redaktionelle Leitsätze übernommen.
