UPDATE ON BRITISH COLUMBIA’S FOREST AND RANGE PRACTICES ACT
British Columbia is moving ahead with its new Forest and Range Practices Act, which will maintain the province’s high level of environmental protection in a more efficient and effective manner. At the end of January 2004, legislation takes effect that, among other things, strengthens accountability, expands security deposit requirements and substantially increases penalties for non-compliance.
The Forest and Range Practices Act, which will be fully implemented by the end of 2005, replaces the Forest Practices Code. The new act reduces administrative requirements, encourages efficiency and allows greater flexibility to address third-party certification and local interests. It applies to any forest activities on public land, which makes up 95 per cent of B.C.’s land base.
FOREST STEWARDSHIP PLANS
Comprehensive forest stewardship plans are the cornerstone of the new results-based regime. In the plans, forest companies outline how they can best achieve objectives set by government for soils, timber, wildlife, water, fish, biodiversity and cultural heritage resources, and are held accountable for their on-the-ground performance.
Government may also require strategies for special management of areas of local concern, such as recreation trails, wildlife habitat areas, winter range for animals such as deer and mountain goats, lakeshore management zones, community watersheds, fisheries-sensitive watersheds and scenic vistas. All activities must be consistent with existing local land use plans.
Forest and range licensees or third-party contractors involved in harvesting or silvicultural activities may be required to post a security deposit that would be used to meet their obligations if they fail to fully achieve them. Forest stewardship plans must include processes to invite and address public comments, and to consider government review and approval.

In offering historical analysis as an important, though not exclusive, avenue to the law and popular culture, I wish to specify, in somewhat abstract terms, the kind of historical study I imagine. In particular, I believe the historical analysis of law and Pop should: 1) proceed upon lines that link the microscopic and the macroscopic, searching for broad philosophical themes within the minute details of past legal and cultural experience; 2) ultimately be rooted in the material, economic transformation of the societies they concern, which is to say have some basis in historical materialism; 3) as studies of law, not lose sight of the state institutions which law helps build and maintain by justifying those institutions through specific and stylized forms of rhetoric; and 4) be attentive to the way in which law as a social system conceives of culture and of itself, by which I mean not the way law understands specific cultural texts or statutes or court decisions, but rather the way law has understood the very concept of culture and the concept of law. | Übersetzung - Deutsch

KudoZ Rules
The following Rules have been created to extend and protect the pleasant, results-oriented atmosphere of the KudoZ terms translation network. By participating in KudoZ, you indicate your acceptance of and agreement with these Rules.
1. General rules
1.1 - All features of the KudoZ system (asking, answering, peer comments and "asking the asker") are to be used for terms help only. Making announcements, using the forms for purposes different from their intended ones, or otherwise misusing the KudoZ platform is prohibited.
1.2 - Users may not discourage others, in any way, from using the KudoZ service to ask, answer or otherwise participate in the KudoZ terms help process.
1.3 - Lower case must be used unless there is a reason to capitalize.
1.4 Care must be taken to not disclose confidential information in KudoZ postings. In most cases, client names should not be shown. Consideration should also be given to whether the term or context itself would disclose confidential information.
1.5 - Violations of the rules should be brought to the attention of a moderator. Enforcement of the KudoZ rules is a role reserved for moderators only.
2. Asking KudoZ questions
2.1 - Use KudoZ to ask for a translation only after you have consulted the KudoZ archives (KudoZ > ProZ.com Term Search from the main menu), dictionaries, search engines and any other commonly available resources that might be helpful. If you find translations elsewhere and still wish to post a KudoZ question, include the information you have found and explain what further information you seek.
2.2 - Texts posted as KudoZ questions should be no longer than 10 words or so. Longer texts should be posted as jobs. (Jobs > Post a Job)
2.3 - Sufficient context must be provided with each question. When there is no context, indicate the subject area and type of document. It can be helpful to enter entire sentences or even paragraphs where the term(s) in question occur. Appropriate general and detailed fields indicating the context must be chosen from the dropdown menus. Avoid choosing "Other" when there is a more appropriate field.
2.4 - In general, askers should refrain from posting a large number of questions in a short period of time. Bear in mind that a question may be send to several thousand people, and use your judgment.
2.5 - If a question is taken from a translation test, or if its content may be perceived as offensive by others, this must be made clear using the checkboxes provided in the question posting form.
2.6 - Expressions such as 'see below', 'in this context', etc., must not be entered in the form boxes intended for the term in question, or its proposed translations. Entering such expressions interferes with the expected display of the KudoZ viewing page, alerts, digests and glossary entries. The use of quotes, unnecessary capitalization, question marks, and anything else that would not be found in a dictionary, should be avoided.
2.7 - One posting must be made for each term question. Posting multiple questions within the same posting is not permitted, since it interferes with the process of making glossary entries.
3. Grading KudoZ questions
3.1 - Askers are required to provide feedback to answerers by selecting the answer they find most helpful. This is called "grading." (It is also possible to decline all answers.)
3.2 - It is recommended that askers allow 24 hours to pass before grading. This gives professionals in various time zones an opportunity to prepare well-researched answers.
3.3 - At the time of grading, askers should enter their term and its translation into the glossary boxes in dictionary form. Questions that do not lend themselves to inclusion in a glossary are exempted.
4. Answering KudoZ questions
4.1 - Answerers should read KudoZ questions carefully before answering. When answering, choose the confidence level that best reflects yours. Guessing should be avoided.
4.2 If you answer KudoZ questions, be prepared for colleagues to comment both positively and negatively on your terminology. Do not take it personally.
4.3 - It is preferable to answer a single question only once. Periodic exceptions are permitted, but systematically providing multiple answers is prohibited.
4.4 - Commenting on an asker's profile, his/her decision to post a certain question, to grade a certain way, or to make a certain glossary entry, is strictly forbidden. (Glossary entries can be edited after a question is closed without the involvement of an asker. Point decisions can be undone only by joint request to a moderator from both the asker and the person who was awarded the points.)
4.5 - Avoid answering in language pairs in which you are not capable, and in fields in which you are not knowledgeable.
4.6 - The explanation box is for providing justification of your answer. The reference boxes are for links to online resources that the asker and others may consult for confirmation. Comments such as 'Studied medicine for 3 years' should be entered in the explanation box, not in the reference boxes. Do not post an entire page of search engine results inside the explanation box. Enter Web links instead, preferably in the reference boxes provided.
4.7 - The "Ask the Asker" feature's only purpose is to ask for clarifications about the question or its context. No other use of the function is permitted.
4.8 - Always assume good faith. Example: while an answer may seem to be merely a copy of the answers that have preceded it, it is also possible that an answerer was viewing a copy of the page in which the prior answers had not yet appeared.
5. Peer Comments
5.1 - Agrees and disagrees should be based solely on linguistic evaluation of answers provided.
5.2 - Backing up peer comments with references is encouraged.
5.3 - To disagree, one must enter linguistic justification. Personal comments are strictly prohibited.
5.4 - Encouraging others to agree with your answers or disagree with answers provided by others, is prohibited.
5.5 - Avoid entering peer comments in language pairs in which you are not capable, and in fields in which you are not knowledgeable.
5.6 - Be prepared to receive both positive and negative feedback from peers.
KudoZ postings that violate these Rules may be modified or deleted by site staff or moderators at their sole discretion. Also, access to KudoZ and other site functions may be blocked by site moderators and staff, at their sole discretion, for users who violate any of the rules, in letter or in spirit, or who in any way detract from a positive and friendly atmosphere in the community.

2. KudoZ-Fragen stellen
2.1 – Bitte nutzen Sie die KudoZ-Fragefunktion erst nach Durchsicht der KudoZ-Archive (KudoZ > ProZ.com „Term Search“ in der Hauptnavigation) und nach Hinzuziehen von Wörterbüchern, Internet-Suchmaschinen und anderen allgemein zugänglichen Ressourcen. Falls Sie auf diese Weise bereits die Übersetzung eines fraglichen Begriffs gefunden haben und diesbezüglich trotzdem noch eine KudoZ-Frage stellen möchten, ist es meist hilfreich, alle bereits gefundenen Informationen anzugeben und zu erläutern, welche Fragen Sie in Bezug auf den Begriff noch haben.
2.2 – KudoZ-Fragen sollten nicht mehr als etwa 10 Worte umfassen. Längere Texte sollten als „Job“ deklariert und eingestellt werden. (Jobs > Post a Job)
2.3 – Bei jeder gestellten Frage ist unbedingt darauf zu achten, dass genügend Kontext mitgeliefert wird. Falls kein Kontext verfügbar ist, sollten Hinweise auf das jeweilige Fachgebiet und auf die Art des Textes gegeben werden. Meist ist es für die antwortenden Kollegen auch hilfreich, ganze Sätze oder sogar Absätze, in denen ein fraglicher Begriff vorkommt, als Kontext zu haben. Die entsprechenden allgemeinen und spezielleren Sachbereiche, denen der gefragte Begriff zuzuordnen ist, sind über die Dropdown-Menüs zu wählen. Bitte vermeiden Sie hierbei die Option „Other“, wenn es in der Liste einen Bereich gibt, der die Zugehörigkeit genau definiert.
2.4 – Generell sollten Fragesteller darauf achten, innerhalb eines kurzen Zeitraums nicht allzu viele Fragen zu stellen. Fragende sollten sich bewusst machen, dass ihre Frage in vielen Fällen an Tausende von Kollegen geschickt wird und sich dementsprechend rücksichtsvoll verhalten.
2.5 – Wenn ein gefragter Begriff aus einem Übersetzungstest stammt oder von anderen Teilnehmern als anstößig empfunden werden könnte, sollte dies vom Fragesteller durch Markieren der entsprechenden Kästchen im Frageformular („This question was taken from a translation test (or from homework)“ bzw. „The content of this question may be perceived as offensive by others“) kenntlich gemacht werden.
2.6 – Formulierungen wie „siehe unten“, „Satz“, usw. dürfen nicht in die für den gefragten Begriff oder für den Übersetzungsvorschlag gedachten Felder eingetragen werden. Solche Einträge beeinträchtigen nicht nur die Qualität der KudoZ-Übersichtsseite und der an KudoZ-Teilnehmer ausgesandten Fragebenachrichtigungen, sondern wirken sich auch negativ auf KudoZ-Kurzfassungen und Glossareinträge aus. Unnötige Großschreibung, die Verwendung von Anführungs- und Fragezeichen und anderer, nicht in Wörterbüchern nachschlagbarer Zeichen ist zu vermeiden.
2.7 – Für jeden gefragten Begriff muss eine gesonderte Frage gestellt werden. Es ist nicht zulässig, mehrere Begriffe in einer Frage abzuhandeln, da so keine sinnvollen Glossareinträge erstellt werden können.
3. Bewertung von KudoZ-Fragen
3.1 – Durch Auswahl derjenigen Antwort, die sich für ihn als am hilfreichsten erwiesen hat, gibt ein Fragesteller den antwortenden Kollegen sein Feedback. Dies wird als „Bewertung“ („Grading“) bezeichnet. (Es ist auch möglich, alle gegebenen Antworten abzulehnen.)
3.2 – Es wird empfohlen, nach dem Stellen einer KudoZ-Frage 24 Stunden mit der Bewertung zu warten. Auf diese Weise wird Übersetzerkollegen in allen Zeitzonen Gelegenheit gegeben, gut recherchierte Antworten vorzuschlagen.
3.3 – Im Rahmen der Bewertung sollten Fragesteller den gefragten Begriff und dessen Übersetzung in die nach dem Muster eines Wörterbuchs gestalteten Glossarfelder eintragen. Ausgenommen hiervon sind all solche Fragen und Antworten, die sich nicht für Glossareinträge eignen.
4. Beantworten von KudoZ-Fragen
4.1 – Vor dem Beantworten einer KudoZ-Frage empfiehlt sich ein sorgfältiges Durchlesen der Frage. Beim Vorschlagen einer Antwort ist das Konfidenzniveau zu wählen, das widerspiegelt, wie überzeugt man von der Richtigkeit der vorgeschlagenen Antwort ist. Raten sollte unbedingt vermieden werden.
4.2 – Nach Einstellen einer Antwort sollte man mit positiven und negativen Kommentaren von Kollegen bezüglich des Übersetzungsvorschlags rechnen. Bitte nehmen Sie solche Kommentare nicht persönlich!
4.3 – Generell sollte man nur einen Übersetzungsvorschlag pro Frage machen. Gelegentliche Ausnahmen sind zwar erlaubt, doch es ist untersagt, systematisch mehrere Antworten auf eine KudoZ-Frage einzustellen.
4.4 – Es ist strengstens untersagt, Kommentare bezüglich der Selbstdarstellung („Profile“) eines Fragestellers abzugeben. Dies gilt auch für dessen Entscheidung, eine bestimmte Frage zu stellen, diese nach seinem Ermessen zu bewerten oder einen bestimmten Glossareintrag vorzunehmen. (Glossareinträge können nach dem Schließen einer Frage ohne Einbeziehung des Fragestellers bearbeitet werden. Erst nach Rücksprache mit einem Moderator und nach erteilter Zustimmung des Antwortenden, dem ursprünglich die Punkte zuerkannt worden waren, können Entscheidungen zur Punktevergabe vom Fragesteller revidiert werden.)
4.5 – Das Antworten in Sprachpaaren, in denen man sprachlich nicht versiert und in Fachgebieten, in denen man nicht kompetent ist, sollte vermieden werden.
4.6 – Das Feld für Erklärungen [„Explanation“] ist für eine Begründung der eigenen Antwort gedacht, und in die Felder für Quellenangaben [„Web references“] werden Links für Online-Fundstellen eingetragen, die Kollegen dann zur Bestätigung überprüfen können. Erläuterungen wie „habe drei Jahre lang Medizin studiert“ gehören in das Erklärungsfeld, nicht jedoch in die Felder für Quellenangaben. Das Einstellen von zahllosen Suchmaschinen-Resultaten in das für Erklärungen gedachte Feld widerspricht dem Sinn und Zweck dieses Feldes und sollte vermieden werden. Stattdessen wird empfohlen, lediglich die Weblinks, und zwar vorzugsweise in die hierfür vorgesehenen Quellenangabenfelder, einzutragen.
4.7 – Das Feld „Fragen an den Fragesteller“ [„Ask the Asker“] dient ausschließlich dem Zweck, vom Fragesteller weitere Erläuterungen über den gefragten Begriff oder dessen Kontext zu erhalten. Dieses Feld darf nicht für andere Zwecke verwendet werden.
4.8 – Man sollte stets vom guten Willen aller Beteiligten ausgehen. Beispiel: Ein Übersetzungsvorschlag mag auf den ersten Blick wie die Kopie bereits eingestellter, früherer Antworten aussehen. Dabei ist jedoch zu berücksichtigen, dass der Antwortende beim Einstellen seines Vorschlags möglicherweise noch eine Version der Seite vor Augen hatte, in denen die bereits gegebenen Antworten noch nicht sichtbar waren.
5. Kommentare von Kollegen
5.1 – Kommentare („Peer Comments“), mit denen Zustimmung bzw. Widerspruch zu vorgeschlagenen Antworten ausgedrückt werden, sollten sich ausschließlich auf linguistische Argumente stützen.
5.2 – Soweit möglich sollten alle Kommentare durch Quellenangaben abgesichert werden.
5.3 – Ein Widerspruch muss linguistisch gerechtfertigt werden. Kommentare persönlicher Art sind strengstens untersagt.
5.4 – Es ist nicht gestattet zu versuchen, Kollegen zur Zustimmung mit dem eigenen Vorschlag oder zur Ablehnung anderer Vorschläge zu bewegen.
5.5 – Das Kommentieren von Antworten in Sprachpaaren, in denen man sprachlich nicht versiert und in Fachgebieten, in denen man nicht kompetent ist, sollte vermieden werden.
5.6 – Man sollte sich darauf einstellen, sowohl positive als auch negative Kommentare von Kollegen zu erhalten.
Alle KudoZ-Beiträge, die gegen diese Regeln verstoßen, werden nach dem Ermessen des ProZ.com-Personals oder der Moderatoren redigiert oder gelöscht. The XX molybdenum deposit is located within the felsic intrusive phases of a late Cretaceous stock near the eastern margin of the Cassiar Batholith. Intrusive phases include a coarse-grained megacrystic quartz monzonite containing zones of finer-grained porphyritic to equigranular quartz monzonite with gradational contacts and quartz-feldspar porphyry dykes and stock. Mineralization occurs as sheet-like bodies gently dipping to the northwest. The control for the higher grade mineralization is the presence of shears parallel to the Crone Fault. The XX molybdenum deposit represents a 150 to 200 metre thick mineralized zone within and above the Crone Fault. The Crone Fault is a major northeast trending fault which dips 45 to 60 degrees to the northwest. The molybdenite mineralized zone has been traced from surface down to at least 336 metres in depth. The deposit is open along strike to the east and west and to depth. Molybdenite occurs as selvages along quartz and quartz-pyrite-bearing fractures, as smears or disseminations along fractures, and as disseminations mainly in quartz-feldspar porphyry dykes and stock. | Übersetzung - Deutsch

Bei der XX-“-Molybdän-Lagerstätte handelt es sich um eine zwischen 150 und 200 Meter mächtige, mineralhaltige Zone innerhalb und oberhalb der Crone-Verwerfung; diese Verschiebungsfläche ist eine größere, in nordöstliche Richtung verlaufende Struktur, die 45° bis 60° nach Nordwesten einfällt. Die Molybdänit enthaltende Zone lässt sich von der Oberfläche bis mindestens 336 Meter in die Tiefe hin verfolgen. Die Lagerstätte ist in Streichrichtung nach Osten und Westen und in die Tiefe hin offen. Personal & professional background
I was born and educated in Europe, am a native German speaker and have a broad range of interests. To support myself during my studies I held many interesting jobs: I worked in a jam factory, in delicatessen shops, waitressed in pubs, tutored, taught Middle High German, Old High German and Old Church Slavonic to undergraduate students, had lots of fun introducing a team of Serbian athletes to "German as a Foreign Language" and, as an afterthought, decided at the age of 35 to become a trained kindergarten teacher to get back to the basics, as it were... I am also an avid weaver and storyteller - have raised 4 children and 4 chickens who taught me patience. Well, the chickens don't live with us anymore, and some of the children have moved on to university and college...leaving me to divide my time between my desk, marathon running and an old, battered canoe [although I'm saving up for a really cool and speedy kayak;)]
I obtained an MA.(1979)and a Ph.D.(1981)in Germanic and Slavic Languages from a German university (Kiel) (my thesis focused on Heidegger's philosophy and its relevance for the Russian novel of the 19th century, in particular Dostoyevsky, or maybe it was the other way round...) .
For the past 24 years I have been living in Canada (previously in Toronto, now in Vancouver, BC).
I speak, read, and/or understand many languages (Russian, Serbo-Croat, Polish, French) and I have a rudimentary knowledge of Latin and Hebrew.
While I started out in my home country Germany as translator/court interpreter for Russian & Serbo-Croat, I presently accept only translations from English into German and vice versa.
Some of my literary translations (E-G, Serbo-Croat-G) have been published.
Past, present, and ongoing projects:
I work as freelance translator for law firms, agencies and corporate clients in Canada and abroad and provide translations for a variety of industry sectors, with special focus on Law, Immigration, Tourism and Mining.
In the year 2001, I completed a major(+ 300,000 wds) project involving the translation of esoteric texts (numerology, astrology etc.), a contract that continued until 2007 and added up to several million words. One of my larger contracts included the translation of web content, CD-ROM files video presentations and brochures documenting sustainable forestry practices in Canada (~ 80,000 words). I also enjoy an excellent working relationship with a number of local property management and Canadian junior mining companies.
During a typical week, I will frantically work on the translation of one or two contracts, throw in a few personal documents and the odd medical report, while getting started with/finishing/editing at least one other major project.
I don't like pressure, but I love challenges!
Vancouver's reputation as the "Hollywood of the North" resulted in quite a few lucrative contracts for me in this field: voice-overs and coaching of actors etc. are especially entertaining after weeks and weeks of contract translations...
