French term or phrase: altérité

Hello,

First post, I hope I'm in the right place.

I've translated "pose la question de la justice et de la prise en compte de l'altérité" as "raises questions about justice and of 'otherness'".

My question is what the name is for this technique in translation theory, (altérité -> "otherness" rather than "alterity").

I suppose specifically it's translating to a synonym with the same denotative meaning but more comprehensible widely understood in the TL.
