shredded, sent, apparently supracervically removed uterus Explanation: The target term is a literal translation. "ubersandt" is the past participle of "übersenden". "abgesetzt" in this context is 'removed'. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 29 mins (2016-01-13 03:44:05 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- 'ubersandt' in the explanation should of course be 'übersandt'. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 32 mins (2016-01-13 03:46:46 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- 'resected' might be another option for 'abgesetzt', but I think that 'removed' is actually better in the context. |

uterus, apparently removed by supracervical hysterectomy and sent morcellated [to the lab] Explanation: or 'uterus. apparently removed by supracervcal morcellated hysterectomy and sent to us/sent to the lab' or similar A morcellator is a surgical instrument used for division and removal of large masses of tissues during laparoscopic surgery.[1] In laparoscopic hysterectomy the uterus is minced up, or morcellated, into smaller pieces inside the woman's belly cavity in order to extract from the abdomen. It can consist of a hollow cylinder that penetrates the abdominal wall, ending with sharp edges[1] or cutting jaws,[2] through which a grasper can be inserted to pull the mass into the cylinder to cut out an extractable piece.[1][2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morcellator The histologicic identification of endocervix may not be as readily performed in the morcellated uterine specimens compared to the non-morcellated uterus. This finding may suggest that uterine amputation took place superior to the level of the internal os among the LSH group. Preoperative assessment of endometrium is essential to avoid inadvertent morcellation of abnormal endometrium. http://www.jmig.org/article/S1553-4650(09)00622-0/fulltext Histologic evaluation of the morcellated uterus was unremarkable. Five months later the patient was diagnosed with a pelvic mass consistent with an undifferentiated adenocarcinoma. Retrospective evaluation of the cored and morcellated hysterectomy specimen showed clusters of malignant cells that may have been detected by preoperative curettage. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9290479 |

Reference Reference information: The terms morcellated and morcellation have been in the news here a lot since morcellation upstaged a previously unknown cancer of a renowned anesthesiologist (and mother of six young children). She and her husband, a well known surgeon, have fought very hard to stop the procedure in the US. Scroll about halfway down the article for a diagram with an explanation of morcellation. If a woman's uterus is morcellated inside her body, cancer cells are spewed around the abdomen, where they cling to internal organs and, inevitably, grow. Even benign tissue that's morcellated can implant in the abdomen and trigger pain, bowel obstructions, and other problems. http://www.prevention.com/health/health-concerns/morcellatio...
