Education


I hold an Upper Second Class Honours degree in Languages with Translation and Interpreting (German/Spanish) MA from Heriot Watt University. During my third year, I spent a semester at Universitat Valencia, where I studied several courses, including literary translation, Italian and Portuguese. I then spent one semester at Universität Leipzig, studying a number of translation and language courses. I also hold A levels in Spanish (A), German (A) and Psychology and an AS Level in History (A). I also hold qualifications in and work with the source language of French.


I am studying a BSc in Health Sciences with the Open University in order to deepen my medical knowledge in a variety of areas.

Professional Experience

I am a freelance translator based in Newcastle, United Kingdom. I worked as an in-house translator in Germany and the UK for seven months following graduation and made the transition to freelance in early 2013. I translate a variety of texts types from German, Spanish and French into English, with an emphasis on medical, business, legal and IT texts. I also work with certain other text types. I am also an experienced proofreader, proofreading and performing quality control on translations into English as well as original English texts. I have also undertaken some pro-bono work from Spanish to English for charities and non-profit organisations.


I primarily work with MemoQ and am happy working with server projects, but can also handle Trados packages with no problems. I have experience with Across, though will generally apply a surcharge where use of this CAT tool is required.
