Lebenslauf
Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for visiting my profile.

After passing the bar in Germany, I was looking for a more fulfilling work; something where I could make a difference. I found this kind of work after moving to Japan in 2010, where I have been working as a German and English teacher since. During my time in Japan, I have learned a lot about Japanese, but also Germans and western culture. If my students ask me how to say a Japanese phrase in English or German, I can understand what they really wish to express, so I can give them a more appropriate translation or idiom than a dictionary. I think that this is an important skill when it comes to translating. Translating is more than just the mere conversion of words. It is about preserving the genuine message, along with the emotions of the speaker; conveying it in a way which sounds natural to the recipient.

Why would you choose me for...

...legal translations?
Because I am a jurist who knows legal terminology. Especially in German, many legal terms are used in an imprecise or even wrong way in daily life. In a field in which precision equals (financial) safety, you wouldn't want to be imprecise, would you? My main interests lie in criminal law, criminology and juvenile delinquency law.

...game translations?
Because I have been playing games since the age of six. Especially text-intensive games such as adventures or RPGs. Use Markus with translation. Critical hit!

...TV/movie/drama translations?
Because I love them and I work part-time as an actor. I know what lines would work well on screen. I watch quite a lot of TV series, especially police procedurals, so you can trust me if you want street vernacular or slang to be translated correctly.

...military/defense translations?
Because I was with the military police force and still maintain an interest in the military and firearms. You will not find too many German translators who have actually shot an assault rifle or took part in field exercises.

If I piqued your interest, why don't you contact me directly?
