This evening Philip Hand was announced as the winner of The Harvill Secker Young Translators’ Prize for his translation from the Chinese of Han Dong’s story ‘The Wig’.

This evening Philip Hand was announced as the winner of The Harvill Secker Young Translators’ Prize for his translation from the Chinese of Han Dong’s story ‘The Wig’.
Philip Hand, who is resident in Xiamen province, China, is this year’s winner of the Harvill Secker Young Translators’ Prize. He received £1000 and a selection of Harvill Secker titles and will take part in a six-month mentorship scheme through the British Centre for Literary Translation. In November Mr Hand will travel to The Hague to participate in The Chronicles programme, which brings together young authors and young translators as part of the Crossing Border festival.
Philip Hand flew to London to collect his award and commented ‘It’s incredibly flattering to win a prize like this. Harvill Secker is providing me with a fantastic opportunity to meet other translators and find out a bit about how it all works, so this is a great learning experience.’
The runners-up were Michael Day, Graham Faulkner and Andrew Wormald.

这门课的第二堂和一天后的第三堂、第四堂也是一样（戴着假发），为了和第一堂课的形象保持一致。 For the second class, and the third and fourth classes the following day, he went the same way (bewigged), to maintain continuity with the first class.
为了和前面课堂上的形象保持一致，看来他的假发是卸不掉了。
And in order to ensure continuity with these first lectures, it seemed that he would now never be able to take the wig off.
虽说他的形象做到了前后一致，没有使他的学生、同事过分吃惊，但这种一致和不变本身渐渐地变得很不正常。
He had made sure that he looked the same each day, so neither the students nor his colleagues had remarked on any sudden change; but looking exactly the same each day would itself ultimately become unnatural.
终有一天他们会反应过来:
One day they would suddenly realize:
胡老师的头发怎么不见长呀？
Why doesn’t Mr Hu’s hair seem to be growing any longer?
没准是一顶假发吧？

“The prize received over seventy entries (all of which were translations of this story) and was judged by author Tash Aw（殴大旭）, translator Nicky Harman and editor Briony Everroad. The prize focuses on a new language each year and aims to recognise the achievements of young translators at the start of their careers. ”

承诺了的一千英磅(£1000 )奖金已经拿到手，飞伦敦的来回机票包括在内。问题是a six-month mentorship scheme through the British Centre for Literary Translation,是管吃管住还是网络虚拟授课？一千英磅扣除前述费用在6个月里够用啊?
