A couple of bugs that need attention:

1. At the bottom of the list of questions in my selected language pairs (KudoZ menu) there is no link to go to the previous (next????) page. The only link is at the top, so I have to scroll back up.

2. The term "next" is misleading as a way to get to the previous questions.

3. The links to the previous/next posting above the list is not language specific - it takes me to questions in languages I don't understand.

This confused me for a while too!

But I love the new layout, thanks to Proz staff for another great improvement to the site.

advanced search mode + edit questions you've "won" Aug 16, 2005

In advanced search mode my questions displays all kudoz asked, but my answers and my point lead to a page where only a total number is shown without the relevant kudoz table.

Same output when clicking on edit questions you've 'won'.

As for "winning", why was this verb chosen? Doesn't it take us back to old debates on points? (I am actually unable to think of a better solution :-0 right now )

Ciao, DZ...

...the content of the new layout may be an improvement, but the visual format is not.

Selection of language pairs got sqeezed into the left corner by the pesky little search box on the right. The language pairs are not next to each other, and their search boxes are asquew. Until now, one was able to get say, English-English by pulling dovn to a certain well rehearsed length twice, exactly the same way, and click on the identical language pair. Having dozens of unused languages on the list, like Old Waspish between 857 BC. to 1491 AD. makes the list very lengthy indeed, so it was a bit of a help. Now, with the boxes being all over the place, it is not possible.
The whole language search section is contrary to the centralised view of the other messages, making it somewhat a side issue, which is not, if you want to look at other than your favourite pair.
I understand, that you don't want to lengthen the top part, but why not put the search box and the other, less used information text next to each other, and leave the language search as it was, in the middle.

The other problem is scale. Now we have wide boxes for the text, and tiny text inside it. Just have a look of the 'number of questions' box. Big box, little number.
I don't think, that the - admittedly - very pretty emphasized separation lines actually improve readability. Just the opposite. Everything else seems more important, than the actual text.

And that bring me to comment on the colours, which is really going me to stop using KudoZ, if they remain as they are. The first things jumping at you when you look at it, are the blue plat ribbons at the names if you dare to look, because my first reaction is to run from the overwhelming yellow boxes on the right.

The background got considerably darker, making the text difficult to read - particularly red letters. The combination of bigger boxes, more separation and darker colours make the text appear smaller, than it is. Or is it really smaller anyway? Or is it, because the font was changed?

The colours on the Forum pages for example are fine, so why not dare to go back to it?

I realise, that a lot of hard work went into the changes, and thank you for trying, but I would have thought ease of readability and use are the most important things, and that's where this layout actually falls short of the previous one.

I hope, my criticism doesn't sound too harsh, but please, think about these issues.

Best regards

Judith

Can't return to short KudoZ list Aug 17, 2005

1) After viewing a particular question, when I want to return to KudoZ list I am taken to a a broad list that includes not only questions, but also asker's explanation and context of the question. I know there is such a list, with the same columns as before and a bit different appearance, because I was in it moments earlier, but I do not seem to be able to find a way with the new features and the new layout.

(In the meantime, I figured it out: there are three options to choose from in the advanced search mode)
2) Would it be possible to put the two options "Return to KudoZ list - KudoZ Open Glossaries" at the top of a particular question into two different lines, with each option in a separate line. Now the first line contains the words "Return to KudoZ list - KudoZ" and one can inadvertently click on an undesired opton.
(This seems to depend on the resolution and how many words can fit in a line - I realized this when I accessed ProZ on a different computer.)

Lighten up Aug 17, 2005

I have to agree with juvera that the new color scheme makes the text more difficult to read and is unattractive. The background color is too dark. The previous background color worked very well. If the aim was to provide a better contrast between open questions and those which have been closed, then I would suggest choosing a different color for the closed questions.

To Jason: glitch in BlueBoard alphabetical navigation Aug 17, 2005

I looked through some of the alphabetical entries, and a couple of times I got trapped in certain letters.

After I looked at a couple of pages of "L" entries, selecting "A" from the alphabet did not have any effect.
The same happened after I looked at a couple of pages of "F".

I could get round it by either using the browser's back button or reselecting Directory>BlueBoard. But it would be good if you can check some time whether this happens for you, too.

Revert to old Kudoz format not working properly; Aug 17, 2005

The button to take you back to the old Kudoz format takes you to something quite different, with no buttons to enable you to do anything except answer.
I have authority to squash questions, but I am now finding that though the Squash button is sometimes shown, more often than not it isn't.
