Hi everyone,

I'm using OmegaT for a few weeks now and I'd like to know if it's possible to open/save files from Trados?

Thanks in advance for any answer.

Claude

Yes, see the OmegaT.org website Nov 4, 2011

There's a "compatibility" HowTo that explains it. You use a plug-in from Okapi.

I did it ... Nov 4, 2011

I found the plugin and put it in the OmegaT's plugins directory.

But ... I don't have a TTX file to test it!

Thanks for the tip.

Hi,

How do you like Omega T? Have you worked with wordfast as well? How does it compare?

Regards

My opinion about Wordfast Nov 5, 2011

I tried to work with Wordfast but this program freezed sometimes Word and was very slow. I use Word 2010 on an iMac. So I prefer OmegaT.
What do you think about OmegaT?

Agencies and OmegaT Nov 5, 2011

Hello everbody,

I have only just discovered the existence of OmegaT (yes, I live in the 19th century). I just wondered what sort of attitude agencies tend to have when asking for Trados and you reply "don't have it but do have OmegaT".

Could anyone please provide feeback?

Many thanks,

Steve

If you want to use a different tool than the client prefers or if you want to deliver a different product from what the client prefers, then it is your responsibility to ensure that the client can use your delivery to do whatever it is that he wants to accomplish. This means that you should not tell him "Don't have Trados but do have OmegaT" unless either you or him know both Trados and OmegaT well enough to know how to convert files from one process to the other.

If the client simply wants a translation and wants discounts for fuzzy matches, well, OmegaT can do that.

thanks :) Jun 7, 2012

That sort of leads to the question of whether - knowing that it is possible to produce the work required - one should even tell the agency that Omega T rather than Trados is to be used. But that's a whole other issue of trust. I don't think I could do that, and certainly not go so far as to say I have knowledge of Trados on my ProZ profile (thus not getting around the job board bidding restrictions)

Still, it's useful to know.

Thanks again
Vikki
