German term

Umsatzerlose

German to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
Für die Übersetzung ins Deutsche ergibt sich das Dilemma der mit der Übersetzung des Begriffs “revenue“ verbundenen terminologischen Präzision, da hierunter sowohl “Erträge“, “Gewinn“, als auch “Umsatzerlöse“ verstanden werden können.

agree RobinB : But I'd disagree with the German source text: revenue can't mean"profit", because profit's always a net. I wonder who wrote this nonsense....

(sales) revenues

While I agree that even English speakers often are "loose" with the use of sales/revenue/earnings etc. as long as you are consistent within your text, there shouldn't be a problem within the context. IMHO revenue cannot be mistaken for Gewinn at all, Erträge and Umsatzerlöse are simply synonyms, as are sales revenue, revenue, and depending on the context, earnings.

German term (edited): Umsatzerlös

profit

She's asking for the correct word in German, not in English. In British English "Umsatz" would be "turnover". "Revenue" in U.S. English means the same thing. I owned a company in Germany. "Umsatzerlös" und "Gewinn" are definitely not the same as just plain "Umsatz".
Peer comment(s):

disagree RobinB : Umsatz and Umsatzerlöse are synonymous, and don't (can't!!) mean profit, which is a net. C'mon, this is Accounting 101 stuff.

disagree Terry Moran : Definitely not.

turnover

Ich denke "turnover" kann sowohl "Umsatz" als auch "Umsatzerlöse" bedeuten.
