I think in this context "course" in itself would automatically mean a series of talks/seminars, etc.

What is more, at University level, Professors and Doctors, are supposed to 'lecture'.

I even have a booklet from Mount Holyoke College where I studied in 1992-3 with a choice of extra-curricular lectures about all kind of subjects. Also, lecture sounds less German than seminar, now that I think.
