The term 'litigation friend' would not be correct - it was introduced in England in the Civil Procedure Rules (1999?) to replace 'next friend' and 'guardian ad litem', which were representatives, for example, of children or other people who could not represent themselves. Your term refers to someone who helps a person who is not a minor.

is called a practice (which by now has taken on the generic meaning of unprofessional conduct) in the US where lawyers try to recruit 'victims' for frivolous lawsuits, thus garnering legal fees (e.g., a small scratch or hangnail is blown up into a life-shattering event for which the victim deserves hefty compensation because he will be 'traumatized' for the rest of his life). But these unscrupulous lawyers are all admitted to the bar holding valid law degrees. In your case, they may be impostors masquerading as lawyers, but it's not really clear to me.
