Sorry about the typo in my previous posting.

In a Swiss report on apprentice farriers:

"Arbeitskleider, gutes Schuhwerk sowie Beschlagschutz wurde von den Kandidaten getragen.
Schutzbrillen und Gehörschutz wurden von der Schule bereitgestellt."

If 'beschlagen' is to shoe (a horse), what is 'Beschlagschutz' in this context? Protective clothing?

@ Cilian and Phil - Many thanks for your help. Unfortunately there's nothing in the context to justify narrowing it down to aprons or chaps or whatever. It's not likely to be shoes since 'gutes Schuhwerk' is already mentioned. My tendency at the moment is to go with 'shoeing protection' or 'protective clothing' or similar. Thanks again for your suggestions!

I spent ages on this one, to no avail. I found it confusing, because a "Beschlag" is a horseshoe, but this is something the farrier wears. Some farriery classes specify that you need safety shoes, but I don't think that's the answer. By elimination, Cilian's suggestion of "chaps" may be correct, but I'd like to see some evidence for it.

I never thought of that. Good point. Some Google images for "Beschlagschürze" show chaps.
