disagree uyuni : It´s not always a congenital malformation. It can as well be caused by trauma or even malignancy (less frequently, though...).

isthmic spondylolisthesis

As opposed to degenerative spondylolisthesis (pseudospondylolisthesis) or traumatic spondylolisthesis (e.g. as a result of vertebral arch fracture). For basic information see http://www.proz.com/kudoz/german_to_english/medical_general/...

*True spondylolisthesis* is not downright wrong and it is in use. However, on Medline it yields only 7 hits most of which are non-native sources.
