| Würgenippel Below Erklärung: Problem as I see it is that the German has a different (sexual) connotation built into the word "Würgenippel" as a possible source of a comedy "gag" (würgen- gag, or retch involuntarily, vomit ineffectually, heave, "retched nipples"). But the English "grommet", although it has humorous undertones is a planet away from the German conception. We don't even see the object itself as resembling a (throttling) nipple in English. "Vomiting grommet" (someone else suggested?). "Gagging gasket" (might work- stretching it a bit from grommet, though). "retching rubber eyelet". You might not find an answer, but at least you found some German commedians, you should be well pleased with that. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 15 hrs 15 mins (2003-12-25 02:44:20 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- A grommet is essentially a little fat rubber ring which fits tightly inside something (tube, maybe) or over something. |
