made of untreated fabric
Appreture is French for a finishing or surface, like starch. If there is none, the fibres will absorb colour and possibly run. It is a too-absorbent surface.

Piece finishing
I am guessing . appretur is apre-finishing and frei may be discontinous finishing or piece finishing, since in T-shirts "piece finishing" is used , but I do not know totaly "opposite " is possible that is by frei might mean "continous " since frei means some similar words as well.

finish-free
Appretur = finish
There are a number of finishes, for instance "Appreturwaschechtheit" which is translated by my textiles dictionary as "finish washfastness". These are treatments either of the fiber or the cloth, so as to give it certain finishing properties, also including colour.

unfinished
Appretur or appretieren means finishing
Wenn eine Ware ausgerüstet oder appretiert ist, dann ist die Ware
"finished".
In this case, you would not want to use a marker pen on
unfinished material, T-shirts.

starch -free
If textiles have an "Appretur", they are starch-free. Marker pen' ink would dilute in all directions.
