Dekanatspfarrkirche

TiA!

Clive Phillips Nov 15, 2016:
Deanery church In the Roman Catholic Church, the "title 'dean' is conferred upon a pastor of a parish who serves as a senior figure, though usually without specific jurisdictional authority, over a section of a diocese. These are sometimes referred to as 'rural deans', and are expected to show a degree of leadership among the pastors of the region, known as a deanery. This function is sometimes titled 'vicar forane'."

As a dean is also the pastor of a parish, his parish church may be described as the deanery church.

@ Amorel A deanery is indeed a group of parishes, but the Dean is (usually) the parish priest of the "central" parish of that deanery. This is what is meant by "deanery parish church". There are many examples on the web. However, "deanery church" equally makes sense and my own impression is that it's all down to local usage, which varies say, between England and Scotland, Canada and New Zealenad etc. etc.
Armorel Young Nov 14, 2016:
deanery vs. parish The parish church is the church of a specific parish. A deanery is a group of parishes. On that basis it doesn't make a lot of sense to talk of a "deanery parish church" - "deanery church" would be more meaningful.

A deanery (or decanate) is an ecclesiastical entity in the Roman Catholic Church, the Church of England and the Church of Norway. A deanery is either the jurisdiction or residence of a dean.

Catholic usage

In the Catholic Church, Can.374 §2 of the Code of Canon Law grants to bishops the possibility to join together several neighbouring parishes into special groups, such as vicariates forane, or deaneries.[

Each deanery is headed by a vicar forane, also called a dean or archpriest, who is—according to the definition provided in canon 553[2]—a priest appointed by the bishop after consultation with the priests exercising ministry in the deanery. Canon 555 defines the duties of a dean
