Hello everyone!
I also have a problem with TagEditor. I am working with a Word document and when i tried today (it worked OK yesterday) to "save target as" it gives me this message "Trados TagEditor encountered a problem and needs to close". "save target as" it gives me this message "Trados TagEditor encountered a problem and needs to close".
I assume you use TagEditor to work on the corresponding TTX. If TTX is broken in some strange way, then it is the simplest way out to recreate it: select tools/translate in TWB, then the DOC (or RTF file) you are working on, select Update Document and click Translate. | | | The file can not be processed ad TTX because it was saved as a bilingual document in Word | Jan 15, 2009 |
Hi Vito,
Thank you for your reply!
Unfortunatelly, i had to reinstall Trados (7.5), because no matter what i tried, it kept giving me the samme error. And now the error message looks different: the file can not be processed ad TTX because it was saved as a bilingual document in Word.
I seemed to have met this problem before, so i looked over the Internet and found the solution that at that moment had fixed the problem (TWB > TM options > Tools > uncheck one of the boxes ... See more Hi Vito,

Unfortunatelly, this solution did not help this time.
Any other ideas?
Anything is welcome.
Thanks a lot in advance

Hello Veronica,
I have a similar problem with a ttx file I received as is from a customer. When I try to open the first (or another) segment in it, TagEditor crashes with this error message (Trados TagEditor encountered a problem ...).

I surely will post mine, if I can find one.

Problem with the specific document | Jan 28, 2009 |
Hello Brigitte,
I think that is a problem with the document you got from the client.
I have reinstalled Trados and i got the same error with that document.
Not with other though and not with the next one from the same client.
So, my conclusion is that the problem was in the document.
Try to talk with them, maybe they can help you.
I hope they will
Best luck!

I've got exactly the same problem here Unfortunately, this has now happened with two files from two different clients, so I don't think the files cause the problems here. Also, my colleague proofed the first file and didn't have any problems.
I hope that somebody finds the solution soon | | | BManigk Frankreich Local time: 00:28 Französisch > Deutsch + ... TagEditor crashing | Feb 5, 2009 |
Hello Veronica,
I am glad to hear that the reason for your problem was a specific file !

I wonder whether the problem comes from the tag settings (.ini), but I am still searching ...
Kind Regards

It may lose some formatting, but see if saving in a different or earlier format works.
Alternatively, select the whole document (Ctrl A in Word) and then copy it. Display a new blank document and paste your work document into that.
Again, it is a matter of trial and error.
As I mentioned in another post, there is a Dedicated Yahoo group for Trados users.
I hope this helps.
With kind regards,

Hello Charlotte,
Jerzy Czopik made a comment under the topic "TagEditor freezing up (no error message)"
that helped me:
He advised to make the TagEditor window not so wide.
It sounds too simple but try it, in my case it helped!

Thankyou Brigitte for your suggestion - it just helped me with this same problem that was driving me up the wall. I had just bought two lovely new wide screen monitors and suddenly Trados crashed on certain files. I couldn't make any sense of how a new monitor could cause such a problem and tried all sorts of things but nothing would work. It still doesn't make any sense and I cannot understand why ... but it did help! If anyone else has this problem, please try this simple solution, it will save you a lot of hassle. | | | Japamerican Vereinigte Staaten Local time: 15:28 Japanisch > Englisch + ... Wow! Thank you!
It worked for me too!
I have 24" monitor, so I usually expand it really wide.
I didn't expand it this time, and it didn't give me any problem! | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Trados TagEditor encountered a problem and needs to close CafeTran Espresso | You've never met a CAT tool this clever!
