Dear friends, does someone have a good way to count the word count in a powerpoint document? I know that this programm has the statistics function, but in my case the count is far too low. Is there some reliable way to get to the right number? All the best Petr

to Word and what you're not able to, just count...
If you are using Trados you could open your PPT with Tag Editor and run the Trados analysis.... that's a quite exact count including all text boxes... regards Sandra
is a freeware program that counts everything, including .ppt files. Google the program and use it.

If your statistics wc is too low, you'll need to use one of the counting softwares mentioned. Whatever you use, make sure that it's set to count text in embedded objects (e.g., embedded Excel tables or graphs). There may also be dead text that has been placed as an image. For that, either 1) eyeball it and count directly of 2) use an ocr program to get an idea.

Hello, Does anyone know if it is possible to do a wordcount of the slides only, i.e. excluding the words in the notes at the bottom of the slides (which I'm not supposed to translate)? What I've done so far is use the info appearing in the 'Properties' section of the document, copy the text of the notes into a Word document and then deduct that Word wordcount from the PPT wordcount. It seems to work, but it is tedious... I have PPT 2003. ... As ever, I can only recommend you to use Werecat; this will extract all text from text boxes (and AFAIK most PPT presentations usually have ALL their text in boxes) and insert in into a new Word document for you; all you then have to do is one style search-and-replace to remove the special tags, and then you have a clean, text only document, without notes, where you can easily count the words. I find this is by far the quickest and most ergonomic way to do it. Good luck!

For MS Office 2003, there is a free plugin from Microsoft to handle "2007" documents. http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=3 Didier

Check out Word Count Plus on http://billdilworth.mvps.org/Add-ins.htm . Apparently it only works with versions up to Office 2007. No idea on its accuracy, however it provides pretty detailed information.
